Best radar detector

WAZE is a must. Very heavily used in the NYC area so it is quite reliable. It does mute the radio when it talks the messages. I just wish I could turn off the dumb messages like "rain" or "vehicle stopped on shoulder". I just want police and pothole warnings. I use it on a dash mount with my iPhone.

 

In Waze, you can fix the radio muting by turning off the sound on the Waze application (open the "Menu" by pressing the waze symbol on the lower left-hand corner of the map page, and the sound controls are at the bottom of the menu). In addition, if you press the "Settings" symbol next to the sound controls (it looks like a gear) and then press "Display Settings" followed by "Show on Map", you will be able to turn off some of the distracting things on the map but not the dumb messages.

Which detector is best for you depends on several factors such as where you live, how you drive, what the police use in your area so to say "this detector" is best is not the right answer.

First where you live and drive:

If you live or drive in Virginia or DC where radar detectors are illegal you will need a radar detector that is stealth to the Spectre RDD which is a radar detector detector.

Now as far as the V1 being the best, no more. Car and Driver did a review this past summer between the Max and the V1 and on a 23 mile trip the V1 alerted to over 53 false alerts!

That's way too chatty for me!

The newer detectors by Escort have much better filtering then the V1 because they use what's called digital signal processing which looks for the DNA of an incoming radar signal, and then removes all the background chatter.

Another advantage is Escort Live where your detector will share alerts with other Escort/Beltronics radar detectors in your area.

Also if police use laser in your area a detector isn't going to do you one bit of good, you need a laser jammer and/or the VEiL stealth coating.

Sorry, I just don't understand the need for radar type of detectors. Have not used one ever, have not received a speeding ticket in 40 years of driving. In Ontario, the highway speed limit is 100km per hour = 62 mph. I daily drive the highways at 118 km/hour = 73 mph. I regularly drive by cops on the side with radar devices, and even drive by cops on the highway, without any issues.
I drive in the U.S. fairly regularly. If the speed limit is 65 mph, I drive at 74 mph, and again no issues of any kind.
I drive on the average 62,000 miles per year, so easily a couple of million miles in my lifetime. Also quarter mile top fuel racer previously and sponsored by Ford for a couple of years. So think I have some experience in driving fast.
In a recent trip from Toronto to Long Island, with another car, both of us driving the same year Toyota Highlander, I had to gas up once only, the other driver did it twice. The time he saved speeding ahead, was fairly taken up with the additional gas stop, plus about 25 percent extra for gas.
Just think there is a limit to how fast we should be driving, there is a reason for speed limits. There is the track for the other motivations for driving. In general, leave some time for contingencies, enjoy the drive.
But I do support peoples right to purchase these devices...being a capitalist is improves the economy....extra gas, tire wear, engine wear, brakes, fines, keeps cops in employment, justifies court system, health care system when injuries do take place, body shops, insurance premiums....Regonomics at its best.
Having said that, just finished the fine tune on the recent GM engine installation in my Mustang to get it ready for the track in the spring.

 

Does anyone have experience on rear scramblers? In combination with detectors, Jammers?

The Escort's TSR (Traffic Sensor Rejection) is badly needed on the V1 as well.

Radar based traffic flow sensors are spreading. These roadside mounted sensors use radar signals to measure traffic flow which is used for personal navigation device traffic data. They are not used to issue speeding citations. To a detector owner these traffic sensors are extremely annoying. In Ohio alone, there are 1,000's of traffic sensors in place.

Traffic flow sensors transmit strong K band signals for one half of one second approximately every minute. Given these sporadic transmission cycles, you may or may not detect the signals each time you drive the same route. If you are getting strong, false K band alerts about every mile on certain highways, then you are probably already experiencing these traffic flow sensors.

In the tradition of ESCORT providing innovative detection solutions, our engineers developed proprietary Traffic Sensor Rejection (TSR) software to eliminate those annoying false alerts! If you have purchased an ESCORT detector within the last year then you probably have Escort's proprietary TSR on your Escort detector.

Because these sensors are not in all markets, TSR is disabled by default on our detectors. To enable TSR, or to see if your detector has TSR software, simply:
1. Enter the Preferences section

In theory I agree with some of your thoughts regarding speeding and safety but we are driving cars capable of higher speeds and fairly safe in doing so. I don't cruise at 110 but sometimes need to pass the Prius owner blocking the road at 62 in a 70 zone etc. I will get up to high speeds during a spirited drive but it is always up to fast and right back down to 10 over or so....live in nor Cal where most chp seem to use Ka and lazer but seems I rarely get hit with lazer. So, it just isn't realistic to stay at lower speeds...at least for me. jmho...
