That's 100% true. 9 tickets in the last year. 8 in my NSX which i rarely drive, and just 1 ticket in one of my 2 trucks that I always drive, and I was going 55 in a 35, so I deserved it. But, MF cops just follow me in my NSX for miles and even try to get me to race them in unmarked camaros, and do U turns when they see me coming
A small flat screw driver on the left and right sides at the same time, just pry them down, the light has little tabs there that hold it in place. Inside there will be 3 wires 1 neg, 1 constant, 1 that gets power when you turn on the rocker switch for the light. Use the neg and the constant, make sure you figure out +/- for the V1, I cut the wires and soldered the V1 power cord on, than taped them up.
I'd like the info on the mirror install! That has to be the sleekest set up I've ever seen. I'm assuming you also have a remote switch to turn it off... just in case an officer pokes his head in.
I commute to Vegas quite frequently to our reseidence there and i use a Valentine One. I set the cruise on the 850i at a reasonable speed. i get plenty of warining from the unit. Often times thinking i am getting an erroneous signal only to discover a lurking CHP. I would go with the Valentine. paul
Escort 8500 X50. Nice little unit, I have it hardwired in, hangs from my sunvisor. I thought about the V1 for a long time but paying a lot extra for arrows didn't make sense to me. I mean, shoot, if I'm getting hit by radar, I'm going to make sure I'm going the legal limit... and in the city where the beeps might be falseys from door openers or whatever, I'm always at or below the limit anyways.
You would not believe how those arrows can help. Along the Interstates I drive there are several different places that always have a radar signal (often around weigh stations)... guess where the most successful speed traps are set up? Where people routinely ignore their detector. Also, I've seen serial speed traps. Detector goes off, you slow down, pass the Revenue Enhancement Officer, and speed up... never knowing that there is ANOTHER signal just ahead. Of course, NOTHING beats simple awareness. A CB would be most helpful, but you can learn a lot by just watching the other traffic.... in Wi once on I-94 my detector was silent, but I noted that the truck were slowing down. So I did too. Crested a hill and there must have been over a dozen REOs in action... they were using VASCAR from a plane (right near a local airport so there was not the awareance factor that there is on rural interstates) and pulling people over by the dozens... The ONLY speeding ticket I have ever been convicted of occured on a routine speed trap in a rental car when I was sans my V-1 and not paying attention... Bill
Does this mean that the use of RDs is illegal in some way in California? I am new here, but in Australia, RD's are illegal in all respects - getting caught with one IN YOUR HOUSE will cost you 5K for a first offence. Yes, The New South Wales Police take their revenue raising very seriously....
my dad had a passport and had a few close calls, so i got him a valentine and he loves it. says it beats the passport by about 1 mile, and the arrows work well. he has 8 cars so moves it around, no need for stealth install.

I have 2 V1 (one for me and one for the wife) and recently I bought a 9500 Escort. I like the V1 better than the Escort, even though the advance warning, or the sensitivity, is about the same and now that I am used to those arrows, I truly miss them when I am in the car with the Escort. Also the much advertised feature of combining the GPS with the Rd, to reduce the false alarms coming from door openers and such on your routine errands, does not work as advertised. My advice to those who are looking to buy a RD: buy the V1, it is money well spent !
Yeah it's tough being a responsible driver. I guess after I got my 2nd ticket back in 1962 I got soft. So now I suffer from low insurance costs . Maybe I'll stop the track stuff and go for the open roads. Oh well someone's gota do it. Enjoy the ride
Wow 1962!! my last ticket was in 1999 for riding a MC without an endorsement on my license in Montana. FWIW I wasn't promoting fast driving but out here in the west driving 10 miles over the limit gets you blown in the weeds by half of the other cars. Anyway just yankin' your chain Steve.
I got a V1 and the new Escort 9500i, which has the GPS marking function and false alert by pass features. I sent the V1 back. Both had the same accuracy in alerts, but the better features of the Escort won me over. The ability to mark a speedtrap for later reference is pretty slick and I can see how in the near future, you'll be able to just download all the 'uploaded' speedtraps from the Escort main server will be a serious killer feature. Also, I really like the 'full dark' mode, for night time driving and being stealthy. Of course, I only use mine when I travel out of Virginia. Hunter
No harm , no foul. In NY the NYSP let you go for 9-10MPH overe unless you are acting crazy. They all sort out the high flyers even the soccer moms. I can see the upper speed limits out west as long as it is reasonable. I don't have a need to rush anymore so 10 over is OK. Enjoy the ride.
The Valentine 1. The reason Passive Radar Jammers do not work, Rocky Mountain and the others. Is in order for a Jammer to work, the Jammer has to transmit the correct frequency. The Passive ones do not transmit, the passive jammers claim to mix the received frequency and transmit it back mixed with white noise and thereby causing the Cop's radar gun to mis-read his signal. which is BS. There have been real Jammers on the market. The real Jammers use a seperate radar band frequency transmitter for each frequency. X,K,Ka, etc. It is illegal to transmit in police radar band frequencies over a certain wattage without a licence. Of cource you can by the supermarket door openers which are "x" and maybe "k" band. Make your own jammer. Install them, I am not sure of the power requirments, they may be AC powered. I worked for an RF company. Our RF engineers explained how to make a real jammer. All I had to do was buy the transmitters and associated components. The engineers, recommended using a toggle switch to turn the jammer on and off. I never built one I didn't want to risk heavy fines or go to jail. Charles
