Price-range is up to $500. I'm going to have my friend wire the radar into the battery so it starts when the car does (instead of having to put it in the cigarette lighter port)
Valentine one. Period. It has options for remote display mounts, remote power supply, and connection to a smart phone app. (But that doesn't work to well yet) The software is upgradeable.. it's really great. Designed by the engineer who designed the Escort I think. Radar and Laser Detectors | Valentine One | Radar Detectors And the arrows make a BIG difference! Lester
That is true IF you are the only guy on the road. If there is anyone within a mile of where you are and moving fast enough to warrant a radar shot you will pick it up and know that you are approaching a "danger zone"
... I need to get new one with updated software. Mine is 14 years old and hasn't been updated, still works great, but I'm sure new one much better.
That was me until last year.. do it, update. The new ones are significantly smaller and have lots of connection ability. And quick turnaround too. Lester
my V one is good, but i get so many K band falses i had to turn off K band which leaves me pretty susceptible
I don't know how knew ones are set up, but my 14 year old one I was always told and did "Big L". Very few false hits and still get most of the valid hits.
yeah that worked for a while but Logic mode only limits X band and apparently newer shopping center automatic doors are using K band...Think I will send it back to Valentine for an update soon either way. This comparison was interesting - Passport still can't touch the V1 on laser detection which is pretty important where I live. Escort Passport Max vs. Valentine One ? Comparison Test ? Car and Driver
I'm in the same boat Rob, I used the Big L or Little L all the time. I would rather have false positives than missing one.
I went with the Valentine 1, Lieutenant PM me if your friend is willing to take on another car so he can wire mine as well.
Hardwired V1 with Laser Interceptor jammers here. Nice setup - seems to work well. Does NOT help when you pass unmarked F250s at a.. little... over the limit.
I stopped using a radar detector around 2008, because all it does in town is give you false alarms and all it does on the interstate is tell you that the cop already has you (laser). I can't imagine how much worse it is now with all the active cruise control, lane avoidance, etc etc systems on cars now.
I've been using a gen II V1 for nearly 12 years. Its also great to pick up Chevy Envoys and Trailblazers. Other than occasionally needing to cut and crimp in new plastic connectors, its pretty good and points the directions of sources. That's huge in my book.
Have you installed the updated software? Does yours have the "j" show up? Just making sure that we are apples to apples on this.
for that <$500 price range you might want to consider also the escort 9500i. It takes care of the false alarms due to its built in GPS. Don't have any issues with it and had it hardwired before installing the 9500ci. send me a message if you're interested. I use the 9500i on my DD, but can sell it if you want it or at least let you try it over a weekend before.
I have the escort radar. Love it, only complaint: Wish it had the indicators where the radar was coming from!
Same with the escort, is there any radar that won't fog crazy with K band over the cayennes( I have 2 and it's impossible to follow mi wife ) audits, BMW and other cars?
