I have a 1/18 Bburago model which I'd like to repaint.

Which solvent would work best to strip the factory paint off? I want to avoid some of the more harsh chemicals, as I've had experience, especially with paint gun wash, corroding die-cast zinc parts (over a long period of time).

I don't want to sand/bead blast or any other abrasives, just chemical. I'd prefer to fill a small container, submerse the body in it, let it soak for a long time and then just wipe the residue off.

    Thanks.

Why not ? What do you recommend ? Any useful input ?

Not harsh, natural, and has stripped paint off plenty of
metal parts for me. Takes a few days but comes off.

OP stated not harsh, and has plenty of time.

Uhhh, if you look up ^ it was me, the OP asking the seriously question. I wasn't expecting a kitchen ingredient to work well on striping paint, that's why I said "seriously?"...

Man, if it strips paint, maybe I shouldn't be putting it in my coleslaw anymore ;)

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

If its steel. Citris strip should be fine. Dont use it on plastic it will melt some plastics.

As long as you don't put it on any plastic parts - aircraft remover. Available at any Auto Zone or Wallmart. Comes in a spray can. be careful! nasty thing for your skin or to breath. But you spray it on and 10 min later with an old tooth brush everything is shiny bare metal.

I have used dot 3 brake fluid in the past. Works quick and clean

The only reason DOT3 brake fluid found its use in modeling is because it does not attack plastic. Other than that there is no reason for using it, as it works pretty slow (in most cases) and it is pain in the but to clean off the parts you are about to paint.
