I agree that a vintage V12 sounds better than most moderns but not than a Euro Stradale. I was at Fiorano where a 250 SWB Comp was being trashed on the track , and even though it sounded beautiful , it just couldnt hold a candle to the Stradales that were blasting on the track too..

A Daytona Competizione however.. that is another story but they are not real road cars , are they ..

    I would agree completely.

Nobody has mentioned the current generation F1 cars. I am not surprised as they sound like angry hornets to me, I can't sit through a race without turning the sound down.

The V-10s were hideous and I haven't heard the latest V-8s live yet, although they sound better on TV to me.

    James,

The 365GTB/4 and the 365GTC/4 motors and exhaust systems are quite different. The C/4 has sidedraft webbers while the Daytona has downdrafts. Also, I believe the cams are different. The result is a considerably different sound.

    Andrew,

The 250 SWB has a great sound but, in my opinion, the 365GTC/4 sounds better (discussing sound only of course). Also, are we talking about a road set-up or a track set-up? My comment is based on the assumption we are comparing street cars. Also, this may just be a matter of taste.

    Regards,

    Art S.

I personally prefer the sound of the 250 series; the 330's and 365's sound a bit "tame" to me.

Anybody who prefers a V-8 has never heard a V-12 in anger. Herbert von Karajan (great German orchestra director) described the sound of his V - 12 as "symphonic".

    Cheers,

    Julio

The stock 355 is about the same as a Toyota.... am amazed anyone responded 355 when talking stock exhausts. With Tubi or Cap, yes the 355 sounds fantastic....

As for stock, the F430 is outstanding and aggressive. I like the Enzo too.

I have only heard in person a '77 308GTB, an '84 288 GTO and an F40 way back in '90 or '91. The F40 was by far the best out of those 3, I know I need to get out more LOL!

    355. To say it's the same as a Toyota, must be a joke.

No cruelty or offense intended but how on earth can ANY 8 cylinder Ferrari rank above any V12. That said a shrieking CS ripping through the gears is great, it's just that I am old school.

For me a '67 275 GTB/4 is the BEST. I had one for a couple years before parting with it for a Ferrari to race. I've spent plenty of time behind the wheel of 8 cylinder Ferraris, a Daytona, a C4 (sounds fantastic), BB, etc. The smaller 275 GTB/4 with four cams whirring away and 6 Webers sucking lots of air is just awsome as it motors away and then tears through the gears shifting at eight thousand. You've got to be there live. Cheers, George

ps I guess there's a reason they are now a million plus.

I've never heard the vintage v-12's in person so I vote F40.

Once back in about '89 I saw an F40 for the first time, the driver turned a corner and opened her up. I can remember that sound like it was yesterday, I still drool when I think about that moment.
