Being military, I have had the opportunity to live in many states (physically, not of mind...).

Washington, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, Hawaii. So far, I would actually choose Washington.

Depends on what you want. A place like Montana is absolutely gorgeous, but you're very far from the action. A place like Connecticut around NYC is nice but has a significant number of obnoxious people, from whom I would have to escape from time to time. Florida is nice in places and indistinguishable from the back woods of Alabama in others. It all depends on where you are and what your goals are. My brother lives in Southern Virginia and loves it. He is a real take-it-easy guy, and I can tell you, the pace of life there is just seriously much slower. He was offered a promotion but would have had to move. He turned it down.

Arizona while the weather is nice in the winter you have to deal with the Blue hairs out here driving 20 MPH below the speed limit. make my blood pressure soar just thinking about it LOL

I was born in Minnesota and lived there until nine. I've gone back frequently, and really love it there, especially in the winter!

I've also lived in Charlottesville, VA, which is simply beautiful. I spent three years in DC, which was interesting, and two years in Chicago.

I've been in Cali for 13 years and I'm about ready to leave.

Minnesota is a great place to live. You get all 4 seasons and winter is easy after you have been here for a year or two.

My two favourite states are Colorado and California. I lived in Boca Raton, Florida for 15 years and I probably wouldn't live in Florida again. I lived in Corona del Mar, California for 2 years and I probably wouldn't live there all the time but I might get a little house there later. Colorado, for me, is simply the best. There are always things to do. Road cycling is great, mountain biking is great, skiing is fantastic, hiking is nice, and let's not forget that Denver has one of the top five performing arts centers in the US. We also have five art and history museums, a great downtown, and weather that's nice enough to enjoy all that the state has to offer.

Well, being a Military guy (Go Navy!), I'm assuming that you are close to retirement and are looking for your exit strategy. My advise is to split the difference. That is, instead of one big place try, instead, to swing two small places. I have a friend, for example, who has one home in Chicago and another in Tucson. He not only gets the best weather wise, but two completely difference cultures. Life never gets boring.

Personally, I'm hoping to have up to three hide outs. As long as I have access to (1) broadband, (2) cell Phone, and (3) a decent sized airport, I can take my work with me where ever I go. This is both good and bad. The bad part is working 7 days a week. The good side is that this ain't working. It's the money for nuthin, and da chicks for free!

Let us know what you decide, DrTax

    Pat,

Correction: Bruce is in North Central Jersey and Carbon is on Long Island, NY. The reason that they seem so close is because I am crazy enough to drive all the way up there every other weekend. Which brings me back to my original statement: South Jersey sucks in every way imaginable. :)
