I recently acquired a 2001 F360 F1. I'm now obsessed with 'sorting' it (although there's nothing 'wrong' per say).

It will have a major service and belt change in the next few weeks, and I'm wondering whether I should ask the specialists servicing it to change the TCU?

Currently it has the original 176552 part, and although I've no reason to fault it's operation (it starts off nice and smoothly, holds on hills, ...) I do wonder if the changes are a little slow, and I'm sometime suspicious how I ended up in higher gears (I'm not sure I up shifted always? And no, it's not in auto).

    I'm wondering if I should buy a 211023 version (the last/latest revision, ~€800/£650/$900) or a CS version (196986, €1050/£850/$1200), or just leave as-is?

    Any advice appreciated....

Personally I would leave it a while if the car drives well and sort out other issues first.
The amount of improvement you get depends on how bad the car drives and some are pretty bad.

I've just gone from 176552 to CS and whilst generally better, I'm not sure it's worth the money.

BTW those prices are nowhere near list. CS in the UK is £1650. 211023 is £1200.

It will shift up in normal mode about 8.5k rather than bounce off the limiter. They all will.

In Sport it will bounce until you change up. That may explain your mystery changes.

With the updated TCU your indie will be able to adjust the PIS settings (point of initial slippage) using the SD2/Leo which can extend the clutch life. My car has the 211023 version and would recommend it.

If you track your car and need the even better TCU then perhaps it might make sense. Otherwise keep the savings and use the money elsewhere for other improvements. Pragmatic View.

Bounce off the limiter :) I'm still too scared to take it above 6.5k! I'm sure it changes up on it's own (while I'm day dreaming).

You're almost certainly right about waiting; the service could throw-up engine mounts, ball joints, clutch, etc., etc., which I'd be better off addressing (budgeting for) first.

Also agree that going for the 211023 would be better; I'm NEVER going to 'track' this car.

Regards price, Eric will do a CS revision for ~€1050 (or less if you've already got a newish one), and 211023s are ~€800 on eBay. Probably find one even cheaper if willing to put in the time on the Internet (reprogram a 430 one).

    Many thanks
