    Dear F-chatters,

What would be the best time of the year to buy a used F-car?

Spring - when everyone gets excited and wants to change for a newer model?

    or

Fall - before winterization, when everyone wants to clean their garage for winter?

    Please comment at will!

    Thanks for feedback!

In my opinion, winter is the best time but this would also be affected by region and price range.

What I mean by that is, you may find a better deal in the winter on some of the more common models in Chicago but less so if it's a 288 in southern California.

Depends on what you are seeking- an appreciating or a depreciating model.

Ordinarily the dead of winter, but that buying strategy didn't work this year in the 308/328 market. There was almost a buying panic where cars were selling in hours and eager buyers were forfeiting PPIs to nudge out competitors and cement deals quickly. Looking back, August would have been the best time in that market before the price surge occurred. I would also say to try and avoid periods when hype from auctions seems to goose markets.

IMO, fall if you're on the East coast. Owners know people will not buy cars in the dead of winter so everyone rushes ahead after the summer fun is over.

    Best selection available.

You answered your own question. Supply and demand always rules! :D

Or in other words, based on where you live, in another 6 to 8 months.

Fall IMHO. There's a mentality that you want to sell while you can...

Got mine dead of winter. I live in NC and the car came from the West Coast (CA).

I would say it depends on when people get their bonuses. :)

Not sure what facts the above posters have a basis for this theory, but statistics have shown, luxury goods items do not have a peak/valley cycle.
I have never seen a dealer sell a used Ferrari for less in Oct then he has in March. With the finance of money being almost nothing, it makes no financial sense for used car dealers selling these cars at a discount as the money at the bank would not yield them more.

If you are looking at a private sale, as in the FML, autotrader, eBay, you maybe able to find a a more motivated seller in the fall ( after the driving season ) assuming , you find the model, color and price point ferrari you are looking for. The more factors you add in your criteria, the less likely you will find a car in the fall as well.

The best time to buy is simple, when you have the money to afford it, and find the car you love.

Everything else - you ain't buying.

Fall. But, in reality, it comes down to pulling the trigger when you find the exact perfect car for you! I bought mine in Spring, because that's when she came on the market.

I assume it is like buying a motorcycle or boat. Best time is the weeks after Christmas to the end of January.

The week between Christmas and New Years is interesting because the owner has given up hope of having a buyer getting a Chirstmas gift for some lucky person, and they know if they hold the car past 1/1 they will owe another year of property taxes.

In January the weather is terrible and the memories of warm days have faded and at the same time springs seems far off. For new vehicles sitting on a showroom floor, it also means it is another model year older so dealers are anxious to get rid of it. I doubt Ferrari dealers have that particular problem though.

You might find your perfect car across (or sometimes in another) the country depending on what you want.

Timing to the market intersecting with your money/desire will dictate when and what you're gonna buy.

Weather don't really gots much to do with it IMO. These things aren't usually seasonal purchases. I'd worry about the short ownership drive it only when it's nice cars. The chance for low or no maintenance is increased.

If you find the car you want, buy it. If you try to time it to save a few $k, you lose unless you really don't care about which car you get.

But it might be quite difficult to persuade a seller to let you make the (essential) test ride. On snowy and salty streets ....

The week after Christmas applies everywhere I would think regardless of weather.

Maybe for personal sales, right about now could be a good time finding a desperate seller that realizes he has a ton of taxes due 4/15 when he failed to pay enough quarterlies in 2014.

Pretty much after doing the research and finding the car you want at the price you're willing to pay. A lot different than buying a production car at a dealer.
