Hey fellas looking to upgrade from these Pzeros. Currently running the stock wheel and tire fitment. In the past I have ran the toyo R888s on my other cars. What's the max size tire I can fit on these wheels front and back? Any recommendations on what tire to use? I will be tracking the car and using it for hard canyon driving mostly. Was thinking the pilot cup 2's or R888's again? Mostly meed to know size options. Thanks

I don't think the Cup2s will fit. You will need to go to a 305 which is too wide. Have a look at the PZero Trofeo R. Very hot dry tire. Not good wear.

Cup 2 won't fit. There are a couple guys here that have switched to speciale rims to accommodate it.

If you get a set of 19" rims, you can fit Trofeo R tyres in 265/30R19 and 325/30R19. You can also run either Trofeo R's in OE size or Pilot Sport Cup 2 in 245/30R20 and 305/30R20 if you want to use OE 458 rims.

Not exactly. They will fit OE Italia rims fine, but they will cause issues due to different front to rear diameter. Speciale spec tyres won't work with Speciale rims either.

I have a 2013 458 Spider with Cup 2 tires that were put on by the dealer and do not have any issues* They are superb-- i love them. Way better than the pilot SS.

    * The only issue is if I turn the steering wheel all the way to its max ability towards the left (which only happens while parking), it will make a slight rub noise. If I back-off the steering wheel an inch it stops. Oddly it only happens when the wheel is turned fully and to the left. The tire barely touches the inside part of the wheel well. It's truly nothing -- no effect and presents no problems.

yeah. My understanding is that it screws up the traction control. Not good.

That's because the front to rear diameter difference of the Speciale tyres are only 1.5% whereas the difference between the 458 Italia/Spider tyre diameter is 6.25%, As long as the front to rear diameter stays within reason or OE spec, overall diameter and width does not matter. The sensors don't know what size the rims are or how wide the tyres are etc. they only know how fast the front and rear wheels spin in relation to each other.

What's your tyre specs? Sounds strange that your fronts rub.

Great information everyone thank you. Has anyone ran the R888s on the OEM 20" wheel? If so what sizes?

Don't take this the wrong way, but have you even looked properly into this before asking? Toyo only makes the R888 in two sizes for 20" rims. There's nothing that will fit the front 458 rims in the R888 lineup. While I'm not a huge track expert, here's a few things to consider. The 458 is a street car, not a race car. Remember that it was set up to use street tyres and a too aggressive tyre can cause more problems than advantages. If you run something like a Hoosier or Pirelli DH etc. you will need to make changes to the entire chassis. They won't work with just a bit of extra camber etc. they will need modified suspension, brakes for race use and so forth. I run the Trofeo R on our 997.2 GT3 and find it to be what I consider the limit for street tyres. They are truly astonishing tyres, and don't need much in terms of dialing in. They also come in OE 458 size. If I were to run a set of track tyres on our Spider, the Trofeo R would be my choice for sure. I would most likely go with a 19" set up as suggested earlier for a few reasons.

1: Super light rims (Forgeline GA1R Open Lug) and lighter tyres with a smaller circumference, which will help acceleration, breaking and steering input due less unsprung rotational mass.
2: The smaller diameter acts like a shorter final drive ratio which helps acceleration.
3: Car will sit about 18mm lower providing a lower center of gravity.
4: More track focused tyres available in 19" size.
5: Ability to run wider tyres while keeping front to rear tread width and front to rear diameter bias within stock spec

    Cons?

1: Looks due to the overall smaller wheels.
2: Price as one should have a set of MPSS tyres to use for normal driving.
3: The hassle of changing wheels when needed.
4: Needs a bit more camber, but that can be dialed in.

Ok thanks great info. No I never even looked in the R888 sizes for this car. Sounds like the Trofeo R is going to be what I'm looking for to keep OEM wheels for now. Really appreciate the info

I purchased my trofeo r from tag motorsports. They are oem sizes. Cheaper than bobs for these tires.

They are "streetable" like Michelin Pilot Sport Cups are "streetable". So officially DOT certified, but not so good in wet or cold conditions.

No. The 458 Italia size is 235/35R20 and 295/35R20. You can put 245/35R20 on the front together with the 295/35R20 rears if you want to bias the car towards more oversteer, but it will most likely become a handful very quickly.

    Cup2 I have are:
    FRONTS 245 35ZR20
    REAR 305 30ZR20

They are great on the 458.

Nobliesse Oblige --I dont know what you are referring to "that they screw up traction control" I have seen no difference and FofTB installed them and they know i track the car as well.

I run 245/35/20 front and 295/35/20 rear tires perfectly on OE wheels of my italia.
For the last 3 years, I did many track driving with my italia and used at least 5 or 6 sets of Trofeo R tires. They are very good for track driving but if I were to choose a tire set for agressive street driving or canyon ride, I would go for the cup 2s. Because:

    1) it is a better tire for street driving. Trofeo R has balance problem after track driving and makes more noise
    2) safer for rainy days since it has deeper water de-charge channels on the tires.

Try asking your dealer who did your install whether or not they did something to the ABS or ECU in terms of reprogramming it for the new tyres. Besides these examples, I know of a few guys personally who had the same issues after installing Speciale size tyres.

I wish we had more definitive info on using SC2s on OE Italia wheels. The difference in diameters in the front is only 0.3 in. but the rears are different by 0.9 in. It doesn't make sense to me that such a small change would upset the stability and traction control systems since different tire manufacturers' diameters could easily vary that much even within the same specified sizes. That said, it seems some have in fact experienced problems going to these diameters. I would dearly love to switch to SC2s, especially since no one seems to have the MPSS in stock.
