In July I plan to take a little scooter trip from NC to Texas. I'll loop up through Tenn, get on the Nachez trace south and then on across Lewzihana to Galveston-Houston then to Dallas.

From Dallas, I plan to head back on a north-easterly route thru Arkansas with the intent of riding the best motorcycle roads (within reason) in the Ozarks. Then Eastward onto Tenn and back home.

I hope to make the whole trip without getting on interstates, or at least minimize that.

Anybody have suggestions of roads not-to-miss in Arkansas?

Be careful here. The speed limit is about 45 mph, and they enforce it. It can be like the Blue Ridge Parkway. Plan on riding very early in the am.

Did you ever see that movie called Easy Rider? Remember the guys in the truck with the shotgun?

Anything north of of I-40 will work.

PS If you can make here during the Summer Solstice you can join the truly deranged. Every year a bunch of really wacked out motorcyclists meet under I-10 right where it comes into Texas from Louisiana. They then ride all the way to a rest stop right outside of El Paso where I-10 crosses into New Mexico. This is over 800 miles. There is no organization. There are no prizes. If you don't make it, nobody sheds a tear.

    Have I ever done this?

    Are you kidding?

PPS If you don't look me up during this trip, I know this Cajun Mama that can really put the ho do on yo ass.

I-30 from Dallas, north on 41 to DeQueen then 71 north to 23 (pig trail) a Road and Track best ten drives and an Automobile mag 20 roads we love in the world. Continue to Eureka Springs (stay at the Crescent Hotel), then 62 to Harrison, then south on 7 to either Russelville and I-40 or continue toward Hot Springs to 5 then back on I-30 to Little Rock and I-40 and home.

Another thought; you might want to do a search for Crescent Classic. There are several threads that have photos from last years F-car meet in NW Ar.

Have to agree with Steve on Hwy 23, this road will blow your mind. Also, hwy 86 north of Eurica Springs from to Cassville is nice as is hwy 12 from ES to Rodgers. You could spend days driving all the great roads in the area and never backtrack.

Arkansas Rt 7 is designated a scenic highway and runs north-south through the western side of the state. Much of the road was built by CCC crews during the depression and it is similar to the Blue Ridge Parkway in many ways.

It's a little hard for me to post pictures but here is a link to a thread I made on the Corvette forum. There are about 20 pictures sprinkled throughout the post.

I really love this road, especially the part between Ola and my neighborhood north of Hot Springs. The section through the Ozarks south of Harrison is even more scenic. Nice switchbacks near the Buffalo National River.

Traffic enforcement on Rt 7 is generally non-existent but you want to hold something in reserve in case you meet an on-coming driver around the blind corners. Plenty of the locals tend to use both sides of the road to a degree.

Plenty of motorcyclists on this road. Google 'Arkansas scenic route 7' and you'll see plenty of links.

Dale, nice pictures, and the segment from Ola to just north of Hot Springs is nice because of the segments with fairly long forward visibility. My 575 can go at a good rate up thru the gears and still safely brake hard before the blind curves and the F-150 on my side of the road.

you might want to re-think 7 north of the I-40, way too much traffic, great views, great road but so much traffic you cannot enjoy it. I was on it 3 weeks ago working on Crescent Classic and we decided not use it at all.

Hiway 23 going north from Ozark is MUCH better and almost no traffic.

Contact me by PM for the 'secret" route for Crescent Classic this September 14 through the 17th.

I grew up on these roads, so I know them very wery well.

21 out of Clarksville is another excellent choice, again much better than 7.

(Hiway 7 would below I-40 is good, but you will not enjoy north of the interstate it for all the semi's and farm trucks)
