Best Used Ferrari Value in today's market

But the revival of the thread does beg the question.... What is the best used Ferrari in TODAY'S market.....?

 

360 or 550.

 

308GT4. Damn good car. Forgotten and affordable

 

Not even in the same league. Nice car however, but not in any way the best value.

Buying ANY Ferrari is an act of passion not logic, having said that a sorted 360 is probably the best value as mid 90s cars are now 20 years old and will start needing TLC above regular maintenance.

 

Given the recent crazy spike in prices for virtually every Enzo-era car (good or bad), the best values right now are probably with 360, 430, 550 / 575M, and 612.

The 360 and 430 are excellent mid-engined cars that should continue to depreciate, since they made so many of them. The 550 / 575M and 612 are outstanding V12 cars that are proven in performance & reliability. The 612, for a modern Ferrari, is also pretty rare.

In terms of MT cars, plenty of them for 360 and 550. But, expect to pay a premium for 575M, 430, and 612.

You'll also pay a premium on 360 CS and 430 Scuderia.

 

Agreed with the caveat that purchase price has little to do with maintence costs. All of these cars have sophisticated electronics that are beyond the average owner and his tool kit.

A Ferrari is never a rational purchase. The best buy is the one that moves you the most and that you can afford. Today and down the line.

 

The closest "affordable" Ferrari to the Enzo era. And a car that most any owner can do his own work on. Which as we know can be half the fun.

 

Not so easy to find these days, at least in the US. Seems like a couple of years ago there were always a couple for sale at any one time.

 

360 - still depreciating
355 - slow climb up, getting too expensive
348 - prices aren't really moving too much
328 - prices up getting expensive
308 - prices up getting expensive

The 348 gives you the feel of an older car, with newer car tech. it;s not the fastest, but it's a damn good driving experience, and there are way way less things to go wrong than on the newer cars.

i think the 348 is one of the best buys for a ferrari right now.

 

It is nice to see a vendor punting a $149 000 steel bodied 308GTS saying these cars are still undervalued..

... but i do miss the days of GBP15000 308GT4s.

I have always thought it a very pretty car - if kept original. Unfortunately too many have horrible wheels, prancing horses and crap paint jobs lavished on them.

The other aspect is it is a practical 4 seater and I can only imagine a good track day car with that rigid body

 

These cars really are easy to work on. And they seem to have less of the 'known' issues that eventually pop up in any model car no matter what make. I sat on the sidelines for too long before jumping in because I couldn't believe they were that solid-no kidding

 

I agree that the 348 is good value IF you can find one that is sorted. The earlier models had high-speed instability issues. And, like the 355, you have to deal with engine-out maintenance.

It probably didn't help either when former Ferrari Chairman, Luca di Montezemolo, recently called the 348 the worst Ferrari ever.

I think all buyers need to be careful. Prospectors are buying up cars to drive up prices. Most believe F-Car buyers have lots of money, but no common sense. In essence, "panic buying."

We've already seen a huge bubble burst back in the '90s and it looks like we're due for another that could be worse. Be very careful when purchasing Enzo-era cars that have spiked in pricing lately. Don't be afraid to wait it out until sanity returns to the market or the prospectors get impatient.

 

IMO its a mistake to put too much emphasis on market trends. They're too unpredictable over time. If you want one buy now and make sure that its one you love enough to keep long term.

 

I do agree, but it's hard to beat a 348 for bang for the buck. The tittle was best value, and i think the 348 is all kinds of value right now.
I am not saying buy and hold it until the price goes up.

 

Mondial is the best value right now IMHO. Haul a family, still get (relative) Ferrari performance, all under $30K.

 

A friend has 348 Spider. Great car.
