I'm looking to jump up into the V12 market. I want something fun and affordable.

    I think the 512BB is out of range now. I'm really thinking sub $100. I don't want a 400.

I like the Testarossa. The Maranello seems modern(ish)

    Thoughts?

    True, what else is there?

Maybe Merc SL, but the repair/maintenance on those is going to be in Ferrari territory anyway...

550 Gets my vote as well.

TR is also an option, but requires expensive engine-out major.

Maybe you can snag a 612 MT for a reasonable tariff - there was an HGTC MT version last year for around 130K on eBay. I think there are around 300 MT 612s out there.

no doubt 550 is the one to get .. your hitting the bottom of the depreciation curve , it is the last of the all manual cars .. and it is just plain beautiful...
it has reliable a/c working nice..

Any Maranello, but i would say 575M manual

Its rarer than a 550 and a lot of the reliability issues of the 456/550 era have been sorted out.
Ferrari quality was on a big up curve inn the early/mid 2000s

To drive its perhaps less racy than the 550, more of a sporting GT.

Its sits well between the classic and the modern.

    Its comfortable and classically proportioned.

    If you want a 2+2 a later 456M is worth a look

Have a look on the 456/550/575 thread for lots of discussions.

Taz is the man on these V12s

    Graham is spot on, imho.

Rarer than a 550 (2,056 units versus 3,083 - roughly 50% more units out there). Finding a manual 575 is no picknic (over here anyway), but it's great value for money nowadays (if prices stay this way) and allows a more relaxed and enjoyable ride than previous models (not thinking about the 456 or the 550, but the 512TR for instance).

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

I'm kind of bias to the TR but I could live with the 308 that is being converted with a remade V12. I hear that will be started up in the next several months.

manual 575s are significantly over the $100k mark listed by the OP. otherwise, I would agree.

You're suggesting a car that is more expensive than the 550 or 575?

For sure I am biased, and I think the 550/575s are incredible cars for the money. But for me, there was a definite drop in the sense of occasion that you get from a 512TR. I also think the jump from the earlier TR is worth it, though you better move now, as 512TR prices have been climbing and they are hard to find. Yes the service is steep, but the cars are very reliable. And I think the car will be a $250k car in years to come, where 550/575s will hold as is.

It's without question the car I wish I never sold.

I have always been drawn to
    the BMW 850 series......Especially the 850Csi

HOWEVER, I went with the Ferrari 456, three times.

Both V12, 2+2, available auto or manual.

456 is lighter, faster, more powerful
    more prestige (?).

There are good arguments that both
the 456 and 550/575 series are at
    or approaching the bottom
    of the depreciation curves.

However, that does NOT mean they
are also approaching the point where
they need no maintenance since all the
problems have been found and fixed.

    If you favor a 2+2, than a 456M in
either 6-speed or auto is a good bet,
but set aside funds for maintenance.

    I have two (2) 456, one 6-speed
and one auto. Both serve well,
but are VERY often in the shop.

For a GT, a 575 may offer the least
    maintenance problems of the lot,
and would probably be the most
    satisfying to own and operate.

I keep mine because it reminds
    me of the earlier 275.

The 599 begins the modern era.
Probably better than the 575 in
every way except for initial cost
    and continuing DEEP depreciation.

I'd still love to have one.

Maybe when the F12 successor is
    on the market,the 599 prices
    will be at bottom..........

Not sub $100K, never was actually.......

A 456 would slip in at $55K, +/-, if you could find a nice manual transmission.
