What is the best method for maximum rapid acceleration (0 to 60) in a 355 F1? Do you rev the engine (if so, to what rpm) and drop into first gear? Do you stand still in first gear (slipping the clutch) and just punch it? Are there other alternatives? Thanks for your help. Tim

Engage first gear, foot off brake, nail the throttle. Its explained in the owner's manual. (performance start). Be prepared for lots of wheel spin and brutal rear wheel hopping. Almost forgot, select sport mode, or it will automatically upshift into second gear when it hits redline (fast) and bog very badly. Way uncool.

Can't really slip the clutch conventionally with the F1 system.

Regardless, slipping the clutch (by being lazy with the throttle) will kill it quickly. Come to think of it, so will the performance start, so set aside $3K before you grab the stopwatch. (if its your car :) )

The best solution is to engage 1st, gently, gently, gently depress the accelerator, and drive very, very gently round to your dealer and plead with him to swop the car for a proper Ferrari with a manual gearbox! The flappy-paddle abomination didn't work in the 355, nor the 360, but it's supposed to be sorted in the 430, I for one, remain to be convinced!;)

LOL, that's exactly what I did and now I fell like I have full control again. With the F1 the computer always had the last say.

Correct on the F430 being the first to sort it out.
It has a Launch Control button, but unlike the SMG/Lambo versions it allows the driver to select the exact rpm at which to release the clutch.

You just hold the brake pedal with your left foot, dial up the revs you want with your right one and when you're ready, lift your left foot off the brake.
It is exactly like a standing start in a manual car.

In fact it shouldn't be called LC as it doesn't try to select optimum revs or use traction control to achieve the best launch, it's down to the driver which is as it should be.

Launch Control will not be available in the U.S. F430. Heard it from my dealer.

LC is avaiable in the 360CS where i hear the gearbox form the F430 is from. could be wrong though. O yea, LC KILLS your clutch. It like grabs it by the nuts and twists it

The F430 has E-diff. The 360SC gearbox is the same as the normal 360 (ratios might be different). LC might be available in a 430CS if they build one (purely speculative on my part)
