This is for my Viper, but you guys are the best at everything mechanical. I stored the car in the trailer for a few weeks this winter, and now the alternator and such have oxidation on them. (I forgot to plug in the heater...ooops) I was looking at some products at the store, like "engine brite". What is the best and is safe to spray on something like an alternator? Or should I just get out the toothbrush and metal polish? Jim

I'd go with the engine brite, or any other engine cleaning product you may find the best and some elbow grease.... friction is always the best way to clean things! Sometimes the toothbrush just doesn't do enough. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Read the directions and warnings on whatever you decide to use. Some of the engine cleaners are pretty strong stuff, and they warn you not to get them on electrical connectors, alternators, etc. And be careful about using anything abrasive on the alternator. If you get pummice or other grit into the alternator, that could screw things up big time. I'd try one of the liquid metal polishes. Put it on a rag, make sure it soaks in and rub carefully avoiding dripping any of it into the openings.

Thanks. I picked up a copper brush at the auto store. Lots of residue coming off, but a dull finish left. I will use metal polish next. Picked up some liquid stuff that should absorb into a rag well. Hope the dust doesn't hurt anything. I will post the results.
