I currently do not have any way to store my wine, and thought this might be an issue since I am starting to buy some older and more expensive vintages (I'm a beginner when it comes to wine). I live in a condo, so I do not have the space for a proper cellar. I do not know if I want undercounter or taller, but I want dual-zone controls (I drink mainly red wine and champagne on occasion). So far I have looked at the Sub-zero and Thermador models. Are these suitable for long-term storage? The person at the kitchen store said the Sub-zero is for archival storage, but you never know with these sales people. How would they differ from a proper basement wine cellar?

    Sub Zero.

That said, if you can build an environment that is dark and cool with stable temperature and humidity, you'll be fine. There are lots of specs available online, but heed my advice and your wine will be in good hands.

Thanks for the advice - that's what I was leaning towards.

Perfect storage would be at/near 55 degrees, some prefer slightly lower. Stable temperature with little variation with a fairly high humidity.

Dual temperature is not about long term storage/aging it is so that there is a section for the immediate drinking of whites. Be careful though since getting a white too cold will kill the taste until it warms up some.

You can go online to winenthusiast.com to get a feel for the wine refrigerators from wine specialists.

We have had nothing but problems with our Zub Zero wine cooler.
Got to the point where its just turned it off as I cant stand hearing it run 24/7. Had it serviced many times.
Also glass windows have zip thermal efficiency. Unless you are doing this for looks just use a standard refrigerator.
Wine refrigerators used to be the thing until Cost-Co started selling them for $99.99 ( or whatever)
