    Just as Idaho is famous for potatoes; Washington - apples; Georgia - peaches... varietal grapes are most prolific in Geographical regions.

    Look to the Grape, then the region which produces it in the best of all worlds; quantity with even quality.

    This will set the price at a low benchmark, while the quality remains at a high benchmark;

    For example;

    Cabernet Franc- Washington, New York
    Carmenere - Chile - through 5 centuries, phylloxera has never touched Chile.
    Grenache + Syrah - Cotes du Rhone Villages AOC - France - stunning volume, fantastic quaff, year after blessed year.
    Pinotage - South Africa
    Sangiovese - Italy
    Shiraz - Australia
    Tempranillo - Spain
    Zinfandel - California

    With time, you will find what you and your friends like. Since it is a given that wimmenfolk will demand Blush Zinfandel and Chardonnay, let them bring it as an offering to you, you Bacchanalian, you.

    Right now I'm a big fan of the Amberton 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon. Whole Foods has had a special on it, normally $12, right now $5 a bottle!

    As to a palatable wine under $10, I've found most years of Rosemount Grenache-Shiraz blends to be fairly decent.

    +1 Costco is a great place to buy wine. I believe they are the number one retailer of wine in the country. They sell a ton of juice cheap.

    I bought a bottle of the Luzon (mourvedre-syrah blend) in there for a mere $6.89 and it was very nice. My friend mentioned that there is 10-year old tempranillo over there right now for $7.99 that I will probably pick up today.

    Liberty is a very bold Cab, which I enjoy, and a great wine for the price. I first tasted it an N'Tini's and after the meal I walked right next door and picked up a few bottles to take home.

    It tastes like sawdust and turpentine. I can't drink it. It may be good for the college kids who want to get drunk, if they can drink enough of it before getting sick.

    I would say it's the cheapest of the cheapest.

    The Costco suggestion is a pretty good one, if they have what you're looking for.

    I just did a wine tasting of about 20 wines. My favorite was the cheapest at $8.99.

    Monte Antico Toscana IGT 2006

    Another favorite was the R Wines Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia "Darby and Joan" 2008

    My favorite white of the tasting was Albert Bichot Bourgogne "Vielles Vignes" 2006

    I found the liberty school receipt. It was $15. Saw it at a restaurant tonight at $23. They love to mark wine up, not as bad as the Ritz-Carlton charging $110 for a bottle of $8.00 Antinori Santa Christina.
