    Everyone,

For a while now, I've been looking for my first FCar, as many of you have followed on FChat, I hope I didn't bore everyone. Welp, I bought a car, new car for me, and dare I say it . . . . I went to the "dark side" . . . . I bought a Porsche --- ducking ---

I found a 2000 Boxster S, it was an original owner car and he was asking a really good price, I couldn't refuse it as a weekend car. Its definately not like a FCar, at least not like the ones I have driven, but it is more city-driving friendly and it doesnt handle that bad either.

The funny part is the owner wanted me to take a test drive when I got there, the first thing I wanted to look at was the service records. I ALMOST asked "when was the last belt service?" :)

This car is basically paid for, I borrowed just a bit of $$$ and will own it outright by December, unlike if I bought an FCar, I would have owed the bank $$$ on it.

I'll probably drive it for a while, then look at getting a 308 or 328. I drove a 308 QV and really liked the feel (will post about it when I can).

I really need to drive a 328, a GOOD 328 before deciding in the future. The 308 QV is a GREAT car and I'm really tempted to get a 308 as a starter, regardless of maintenance issues. The 308 is really a true "sports car", its small, corners great, has great sound (well, with a Tubi), and just is fantastic.

I'm going to stay in lurker mode, so I can stay on top of things, then, when I get ready (i.e. get tired of the Boxster) I'll be back.

    Thanks for everyone's assistance,

    James in Denver

Good luck with the Porsche, Boxsters are a good value right now in my opinion and less issues that would cost $$$ I'm sure. Appreciate your offer for help with the Ferrari in Denver. I'm torn between a Ferrari and a 911 right now as I"ve owned and driven a few Porsches and my father was such a Porsche guy, but had two Ferrari's as well.

Good luck James, I sure do hope that you'll end up with the QV, since I bought my QV seven Months ago untill today, I have never once have any regrets. It seems like the more you drive it the better she feels and better she looks, that goes just the same for the 328. I love my car and I know you will too once you own one. So don't wait too long get one soon.

You will love that Boxster S, and you know it will run circles around a 308.
Be proud of it, their great cars :)

James, I agree, a Boxster S is a lot of fun for the bucks and you probably bought at the right point in the depreciation curve. But keep this in mind:

This discussion has played out 116 times on FChat, and I actually had a 911 (993) just before my 328 and will vouch for this: The experience of owning/driving/listening to/ogling any Ferrari is something every hardcore car enthusiast needs to have. (And yes, this applies even to those slow 308s!) Every part of the car, from the five-spoke wheels to the gated shifter to the severely raked windscreen to those four Tubi tailpipes, just gets me fired up as soon as I walk up to the car. Much as I enjoyed my 911, it didn't push all my buttons the same way.

So, enjoy the Boxster in good health, but I have a hunch that Ferrari bug hasn't quite left your system.

    Congrats !!

Enjoy the P-CAR! (they are quite fun). But there is nothing like that raw uber-go-kart feel of a 308 QV (get a nice, light, punchy eurospec !!!!!)

Ciao (or should I say aufwiedersehen?)

......... you'll be back. Once bitten, it takes more than this to get it out of your system. Good luck with the P-car.

Sorry to hear James . Unfortunately these Pcars are a dime a dozen so you must like it to enjoy it. I see maybe 6-10 a week in my little upstate area but never see an Fcar. I guess its a matter of taste. Good luck.

very well said. my 84 euro carrera has taught me to respect the 911 series. the car does EVERYTHING better than any of my Ferraris or Lambos, but i would MUCH rather have an old, slow, carburated 308 or ? Lambo than the super reliable Porsche. the attraction for the old Italain carb cars is very hard to put into words. the best thing one could hope to do is buy one of each and keep them all !!!! i STILL want and older Lotus Esprit turbo SE too !!!!

    bieng a gearhead is hard!!!!

Nice car James, but you will be back. :) Looks like you married a dependable woman instead of continuing to date the supermodel QV.

Nice pick with the 986S. Very capable and fun to drive. I bought a new one in 2003(mostly because I wanted the glass rear window) but only kept it 9 mos because I didn't like the convertible aspect. However, that was the first car that made me understand what "riding on rails" meant. I've since moved on to a GT3 and Turbo which have more power and excellent handling - but nothing can top the boxster in that regard. You are going to have a blast - and kudos on arena red!

Now once you get a few more bones saved up, I strongly urge you to keep that boxster and get that first Ferrari (I'll forward you all the info I've researched for a garage lift so don't tell me space is an issue) :) I didn't understand what everyone was talking about until I started to drive my own Ferrari this weekend. It's a feeling that I've never felt before and can't describe it - I only hope it's not fleeting but I don't think it will be :)

I like Boxsters and considered buying one but I'm glad I didn't make that mistake and got a nice 328 GTS instead. Yes, it cost a lot more money, but hey we all have to have a reason to go to work in the morning! In the long run it's always less expensive to get what you really want in the first place.

My Boxster is arena red too and I love it. Put a B&B exhaust on it for $900 and you will be very happy. Congratulations!
