I have this from a good source:
The lowlife from Qatar who was endangering - then threatening- people in Bev Hills in his two cars and bodyguard SUV had an auto carrier come for the four or five cars posing on his driveway... the day after he fled the country. The cars were taken to LAX and were flown out (wherever).

Now for the punchline:
The LaFerrari engine was a "shipping" mode while he was blasting around (I'm assuming "shipping" disengages high voltage to prevent accidental electrocution of "check out" mechanics at the car's destination ) and the fool didn't know about it. So, the engine fire was caused by unreleased high voltage???
The damage was $100,000 and the punk wants the factory to fix it under warranty, because rich daddy is a big buyer of new Ferraris.

Anybody else hear this; and confirm what "shipping mode" is on a hybrid supercar?

I suppose that the "shipping mode" should have been disabled by the dealer or whoever transported the car so, to my dismay, maybe the punk is right.

From your dramatic tone, one would think the warranty repair (if true) was coming out of your own pocket...

I think the dramatic tone comes from the behavior of that spoiled brat who endangered people by driving like an asshat on small and residential streets and giving Ferrari and sports cars enthusiast a bad name. But thats just my opinion.

In every corner of the globe, entitled idiots exist, acting-a-fool endangering innocent bystanders with their arrogance laced with stupidity.

Some daily incidents we read about here on FC & in the media carry a much more dramatic ending: loss of life, serious injury, etc..

Nobody's defending those bozos....Yet this incident gets alot more traction...Mysteriously replayed over & over & over much more than other similar-incidents....I wonder why ?!?

Is it solely concern over Ferrari's image ? Blemishing the reputation of car enthusiasts world wide ?

Many other fools achieved far worse for the brand & for enthusiasts, yet barely get mentioned in the same frequency ? I wonder why ?!?

Stefan Eriksson's Enzo crash didn't get this level of scrutiny at the time...Was his Enzo in "shipping" or "check out" mode when he was racing down PCH ?

But that's just my opinion...

Stefan Eriksson' crash got a lot of media attention too. It was on several news channels and in the newspapers. On the morning of the crash people even called me because I owned a red Ferrari and were worried I had been in a crash since I live close by the scene.

But Erikksons crash happened a while ago before social media and smart phones had become popular.

Now with social media and YouTube and smart phone, things can go viral in hours.

Also there was no video of Errikksons crash. If there were, we would have seen that replayed over and over too.

Back to the LaFerrari driver. That kid must have been driving like a mad man repeatedly. Enough so that the locals got upset enough to video him and catch it on video.

How many times do you see something horrendous but aren't quick enough to catch it on your phone. This kid must have been diving like this a bunch of times so it was caught.

Anyway, don't know why people need to defend either of these hooligans. Errikkson was a crook/criminal with no common sense or regard for anyone else. Glad he went to jail.

This young kid is also a selfish entitled immature jerk with no common sense or regard for anyone else.

They are the same--very bad people.

Yea right 'shipping mode'.

Not the first LaFerrari to begin smoking up.

Of course the factory should fix their shoddy product.

From my understanding on EU/GCC spec LaFerrari there is an electric start option which allows the car to be moved short distances without starting the engine- I am assuming for the purposes of moving across a garage or perhaps in this case on to and off a shipping container.

More than likely the idiot racing around did not involve a dealer and the shipper probably didn't have a clue.

Sounds like Daddy decided to pull the financial help on this one and let the fool pony up for the repairs. Now he's trying to weasel out...

Doubt it. He's part of the royal family of Qatar. The same family owns the Ferrari dealer in Qatar.

Saw the story on Jalopnik a month ago and didn't think anything of it, but it really wouldn't surprise me that the kid would try and pull something like this.

Though, to be fair this might be more Daddy's fault than his. 17 and driving a 1 of 499 hypercar that bends reality with the push of a foot.

All I could drive at 17 was a beater Jeep....

That episode pissed me off so badly I sent a letter to the State Dept demanding his arrest. I got a response. They were looking into it.

Hmm, I am not sure how that would work. What is "unreleased high voltage"?
