When you click on the EBay ad for the White 1974 Dino 246GTS it will "look" like it sent you back to your login. It is to the individual's ebay store.
Note the URL. It doesn't look right. I opted not to enter my login and password.

it seems to hang my computer when I clicked on it, had to reboot so I never got to see that password prompt...too bad, I had my $6,000 grand ready to go for a Dino GTS. I tried it from lynx ( a text only web browser ) and it had a re-direct to huntersofafrica.co.za and that is where it asked for your username. I don't know why it hung my computer first time though

Remember the kid from Mexico that was real excited about he & his dad about to acquire a Dino earlier this year? Lots of congratulatory postings until he mentioned the car is in Indonesia. Hope they didn't lose any money.

Got a link to the URL of the EBAY ad?

I'd like to see if this charlatan is setting cookies or what the root directory is, etc.
I have no intention of bidding or divulging my personal info or EBAY passwords/userids, just wondering if EBAY has stooped to a new low. My guess is that EBAY hasn't pulled the ad yet, although I can't seem to find it

After dealing with a real TURD seller on eBay (and a French Canadian at that - NO OFFENSE intended to all of the decent Quebecqois/Quebecois -- spelling variants depending on which dictionary you prefer -- and Ferrari of Montreal), I came to the realization that eBay doesn't really care about buyers that much.

eBay makes its money directly from sellers. eBay focuses on making sure that buyers pay for product -- the safety links are set up primarily to protect sellers -- even though virtually no seller bothers to send anything until paid. No seller will risk losing product to an unpaying buyer, but eBay expects buyers to pay simply on good faith. eBay sets up automatic reminders and sends threatening notes reminding buyers that they have entered into contracts, BUT eBay makes it much harder for buyers to enforce contracts and to follow up on slow shippers. eBay sets unrealistic time limits to file formal complaints for transactions where the buyer has paid but the seller makes excuses for not shipping. Most buyers hate to leave negative feedback and will give sellers a lot of time to complete a transaction, but often such tolerance puts a buyer up against eBay's fraud claim time bars. eBay only gets upset about lousy sellers if such behavior threatens to undermine eBay's broader marketing goals. One must be absolutely vigilant and careful when using eBay.

eBay, of course, recommends using one of their contracting escrow outfits for highend transactions, but that doesn't make a lot of sense for sub $1000 items. The transaction costs can become quite high (in an R.H. Coase sense), and obtaining accurate information on anonymous sellers is often hard or very expensive (especially if one includes time and search costs). All it takes is for one seller with tons of positive feedback to drop ONE BIG BOMB OF A TRANSACTION ON SOME UNFORTUNATE BUYER.

Also, have any of you been suspicious of shill bidding on eBay? I am. eBay says they won't tolerate it, but I have never seen them explain very well how they enforce their "no shill bidding" rules.

Some good points but have you looked at the EBAY stock in the last year? Due to the declining stock price, I've seen analysts dicussing this revealing that Ebay auction profits have been growing at a far slower pace than in the past, which has caused the stock prices to drop. Read further and you'll find that profits from PAYPAL have been increasing. Paypal buyers enjoy their extra security after the sale, so your points about Ebay being a shady place to trade might seem to be supported by the shift to more Paypal buyers.

I had a bad experience with Paypal in 2001, a false chargeback on something I sold and Paypal made me jump through hoops to resolve it. Communication was terribla and I was at risk of losing the item I sold, the Ebay fees, the Paypal fees and the money transferred to me through Paypal. Last spring a friend had three false charges to his credit card from Paypal totalling $15k.

As far as EBAY's feedback system, your observation about the seller waiting to leave feedback after the buyer does is known as "holding feedback hostage" as part of the Ebay flaw. Personally, when I sell I always leave feedback first and when I buy if the seller does not leave feedback first then I NEVER leave feedback.

Yahoo auctions had created a superior website long before Ebay with many features that took EBay years to copy with one that is still unique - the buyer and seller can leave many feedback comments AND change the rating (Good, Bad, Neutral) at any time. I've had several deadbeat buyers come through after I left a neg with a comment that said "I would gladly reverse this to a positive should you complete the transaction by paying"

Then again, Yahoo auctions in the USA is seriously lacking traffic.
