Illinois implemented a new law prohibiting any form of protective license plate covers. Cops supposedly can't stop you only for that violation but can tac it on if you are stopped for another violation.

I heard about this as well. I've always kept a clear plate cover on all my cars just to keep the place nice and clean. Thanks alot Gov. Blago!

Just an FYI, many covers are smoke color or otherwise designed to and block the toll booth cameras from getting the plate number. So, many people go through the coin tolls without paying. The Gov. wants his money, and I don't blame him.

I got a ticket for a smoked plate cover about 8 months ago. He cited the same reasons - they were told to ticket everyone with them because of the traffic cameras and the ipass systems. Oh well.

I am thinking of puting 3M privacy filters (for laptops) over my licence plates. I am not sure if they are dark colored but will definately stop the photo police in every form. Any thoughts?
