Look at this way, you know the long standing question to someone crowing about personal accomplishments: "So what da ya want, a medal, or a chest to pin it on?" Now obviously you can have BOTH. Besides, these implants require daily massaging.......
Frogman - You are correct but actually that is a secondary reason. The primary reason is really that a) it allows military surgeons to keep current on the reconstructive surgery skills needed for dealing with the aftermath of war injuries, and b) because these skills are necessary to treat people with certain diseases that are commonplace in all populations - such as breast reconstruction after mastectomy or facial reconstruction (rhinoplasty, hair transplants, etc) after head and neck tumor resections, major burns, etc. As an aside, I know the Army plastic surgeon who they quoted - his comments were taken WAY out of context and stirred up a lot of public controversy over absolutely nothing.
Thanks, Shan. Didn't seem controversial to me. Seemed like a great idea, actually, not only for the reason you cite, but also because the folks in uniform are not exactly well-paid...and the more benefits they have, themore attractive that noble profession will remain. All IMO, of course.
As my learned college just said, you could not be further from the truth!!! I have seen, I think, about four beautiful enlisted female Marines...Ever. And I think they were dating each other at the time. The VAST majority look like ten pounds of SHlT in a 5 pound bag.
Frogman: Yup, I am at the home of the AMEDD - the best assignment ever. I'm leaving for Vilseck, GE in May but hoping to come back to FSH at some point. Pleased to meet a fellow Soldier Medic on Fchat. Shan
