I have a Tubi muffler and want a little more sound. I do not want the car to be as loud as a challenge car but if I can get half of the way there I would be happy. I also want to avoid hot cat-converters.
Sorry if this is a tired subject ...but I just got here and could not satisfy my answer through the archives.

Hi Chas- I have looked on Ricambi and I saw $785 each. That would be $ 1,570 for a pair.

I see what you mean Chas. Those I would call Bi-pass pipes. OK OK. If I can get a waiver on emmisions I probably would also.

I have nothing against Hyperflow but $700 is too much. Tubi test-pipes and/or by-pass pipes should only be around $500 (if not less). Check around.

The sound is awesome (it's hard to go back) but the exhaust smell is really bad and it will stick to your clothes.

btw, norwood has a used ansa test pipes for $450.

    John -

Your odds of getting an emissions waiver are pretty slim in Maryland. The nice thing about the Hyperflow cats is how much HP they'll preserve, compared to OEM cats. Hyperflow is currently working up some Dyno sheets (might still be a little while), but I think you'll be impressed.

A properly tuned 348 with test pipes will blow clean numbers - but if Maryland requires a visual confirmation that cats are installed, you might not pass the test. Cats vs. pipes are really a political issue for lots of folks. Kevallino runs Hyperflow cats, and loves them. On track days, I run pipes and love them. Because curiosity killed the cat, I did this when I had the track pipes on: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44093

Shoot me a PM. Maybe we can work something out.

    Kindly,
    Daniel

p.s. Noel -- take a good look at Hyperflow pipes. I agree, they're not cheap, but the workmanship is extremely good. The slight angle and flange isn't something you could just knock out at Midas.

    John,

I have to disagree with my friend Noel. The smell is not that bad in my opinion. My exhaust actually smells a bit like cinnamon!

The Tubi and test pipes setup will give you the most amazing sound in the world. Everyone who hears it says that my car sounds like an F1 race car. You won't be disappointed. Just get an emissions guy in your pocket beforehand and you'll be set! :D

I too just ordered a set of test pipes from Ricambi. Daniel there was very helpful and responded quickly. Very good customer service. The pipes were drop shipped same day from Hyper-Flow and my tracking shows I will have them Thursday on the doorstep, or hopefully in my hands if I am home with the wrenches.

Ricambi seems to have an enormous amount of inventory, and I see myself going there first for any parts I may need in the future.

If anyone is interested there is a clip of my car at http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=134877013&postcount=1 - click through to Albert's site and my 348 is video number 6. Will give you a good idea of the sound of the Tubi/Hyperflow combination. Yeah, the Hyperflows aren't the cheapest thing in the world, but in a spider the fuel smell is horrible plus I'm in Kalifornia so have to pass smog so I am really happy. No jacking around next smog check time and I would think most would agree it sounds bloody fantastic.

    Cheers
    Kevin

Those test pipes are just a straight pipe with flanges. You can go to any good muffler shop that's certified to work with stainless steel and have them make you a pair with some high flow cats. I'd bet you'd pay no more that $60 labor on top of parts at the most.

$785 is a crime. Anyone have any pics of the test pipes and measurements? Maybe I should get in the High-Flow Ferrari Cat game... :) Then those prices would come down.

RandomTechnology is my choice for High-Flow cats.

Incorrect. They are not just straight pipes with flanges. The end that mates with the Muffler is straight pipe. The end that mounts to the headers is mandrel bent to a specific angle. The angle and length are critical to proper fit and support. The header end also has a "special" cup shaped flange that seals at the exhaust donut. Not as easy as it 1st appears!
