    My first major balls-up :(

    The paint on the disaerator was non existant at the top and while the coolant tank was off I decided to tidy it up a little.

    It's aluminium so needs special primer to make the paint stick.

    After a coat of hammerite - the picture was taken when the paint was wet but there's still a big difference between the new and old paint. It looks gash and I have already taken steps to rectify it with the correct wrinkle finish. Watch this space.

    With the car back together for the first time since I started it was time to take it out and show it off. I recently went to a breakfast club at Goodwood circuit and was lucky enough to be invited to show the car on the pit straight.

    Very nice work indeed.

    I am about to start my own mini project of fixing up a 360 modena I have bought. I am in the UK as well.

    I am interested in your repair on the rear bumper, as I have a similar issue on mine, it has a small hole/crack in it.

    So I would like to know what products you used and what methods you used to restore it. Mine has a gloss black paint finish at the moment and I want to go for the satin black you have used.

    It was a very easy repair for me. I ground back the damage with a grinding tip on the dremel. This revealed the damaged to be on the surface only. I didn't have any cracks but if you do you'll need to drill the ends to stop them spreading. As my damage was on the surface I didn't need to glassfibre but if you have a hole then you'll need to lay a mat over the back and cover with resin.

    Once my damage was cleaned up I put a skim of filler over and let it set. This was rubbed back to get it flat. I then used filler primer and let that set. This and the rest of the diffuser were rubbed down with 600 wet and dry. I then sprayed it with two coats of satin black.

    The other weekend was an opportunity to take the car out and give it a bit of a shakedown. I joined Petrolhead Nirvana on one of their Welsh weekend tours - the weather was great and the car performed very well. All in I covered about 500 miles at full tilt on some of the finest roads in Wales.

    One thing I can note is the Pagid Blue pads are so much better than OEM. They do squeel a touch at low speeds but they make up for it when throwing the anchor out.

    It was pointed out to me that I had put the exhaust bracket on upside down. As I had the rear bumper off I quickly switched it round. It seems the hammerite has gone a golden colour with the heat - it looks OK at the moment as it matches part of the exhaust but if it gets any worse I'll have to think of another solution.

    I noticed that the vaccum pipes that control the stock exhaust flaps were missing - I guess whoever took the stock exhaust off removed these instead of plugging them. I have seen reports of open pipes causing problems, including the dreaded CEL. This was easily fixed with a small length of pipe, a bolt and two hose clips.

    Following my botch to touch in the disaerator I decided to do the job properly.

    First off was to drain the oil out but I only managed to get a bit out as I didn't have the correct hex for the front drain plug. No matter as enough came out to drain the disaerator.

    As the car will be sitting for a while without oil I decided to tape up the ignition to stop any unfortunate accidents.

    This is what I wanted off the car. It was very easy to remove - three breather pipes, one big braided hose that goes to the heat exchanger and three 13mm bolts. It was removed with everything else in place.

    The undertray had a piece snapped off - fortunately the broken off piece was inside the tray. I wasn't even going to entain buying a new one at over £750.
