Well,we had a Wash Out today for the Big Drive that we had Scheduled....Bummer!... So,as posted, the Rain Date will be NEXT Saturday...October 30TH. Same Meeting Spot,(South West corner of Yorktown Shopping Center Parking Lot- At Highland Av. and Butterfield Rd.(RT.56) in Lombard.) Time yet to be determined, but probably not real Early-10-10:30-ish.... When I originally posted the Poll asking what day would be good for you. We had a pretty good response, also, for that Day. Hope it works out for you,as,this is Really going to be a Fantastic Drive. Chuck really has a Great Route all mapped out. And,Starved Rock,(all along the whole Route, really) is Really a Beautiful place,by the Illinois River. Should still have some nice, colorful Leaves next Saturday, too. Hope that you will all join us,as,the Weather in Chicago is always so unpredictable...we could have Snow anytime here now. Or,a burst of Nice Weather,(Doubtful...) But,if we do,we'll do yet Another Drive!....
Hey Frank, I was just wondering if i would be able to tag along with you guys on saturday. Im only 16 but I really do love Ferrari's and want the experience of driving along with them. I will drive myself and maybe a friend(if thats cool), so you dont have to worry about anything. Please just let me know. Thanks, Alex Johnston
Sure thing. I am bringing my Son along, too. Although he's only 7... But,he's been into Cars..and Ferrari's from just about the beginning,(of his Life...) But,when I have him in the Car with me,I take it easy. So,I limit my "Spirited Driving" a little. I was a Year Older than you when I first got bitten by the Ferrari Bug....(1977... ) And,wish that I knew someone who had one back then,to check out up close. Yes,you guys can come along. But,make sure that you make your Folks aware that this is not a Sanctioned Event of any kind, and everyone is "On thier Own". See you next week.
Well,we had a Great Time today at the Morton Arboretum Drive. If you missed it. You really did miss something. It was a really nice day...The Weather. The Food. The Arboretum. And,most of all,the People and the Beautiful Cars. Everything was perfect.... BUT......Hold on...We have Yet Another Drive Planned for Next Saturday..You Don't wanna miss it.... It's gonna be a Good one, and,Winter is a comin'....
If its nice outside, I will show and make the FOC/Fchat debut of a car equal to if not greater than the looks and quality of a Pontiac Aztec. Maybe I can get that green phantom Hyundai that likes to drive into trees as a wingman... gee Frank, I thought you were joking about that guy the mob put into the woods, I think that was his car! RocketBoy
Disclaimer: And,by all means. I/We do not condone, nor encourage Speeding,Driving Recklessly,Dangerously,Or Lawlessly. Or putting Yourselves,Others,or anyones Property in any Harm or Danger. Everyone is "On their own" as Responsible Adults. A little "Spirited Driving" means that we just wanna have fun...Thats all.... And enjoy the Beautiful Colors of Fall, along with Starved Rock,The Illinois River trails, and the "Country Air". Thats what it's all about... See you all next Saturday! Yes,Just as I told you,David....,(Rocketboy) ('Sopranos' Theme Music playing in Background... )
alright guys its midweek and so far mother nature is not going to make us unhappy (knock on wood!!!). who's in for saturday? mike
weather.com states high of 60 low of 39 and partly cloudy. We're supposed to have scattered T-storms the day before. Weather permitting, I am still in with my mystery car. RocketBoy
I will see the group @ Starved Rock. Just provide an ETA & a spot to find you all. I will do what I can to see ya' there for photos.
Well,so far I've seen different forecasts for Saturday...One says Partly Cloudy,Sunny Later. One says Rain in the Morning, nice later. One says Rain the Day and Night before, then O.K. for Saturday...So,I guess we'll just have to "Play it by Ear". Check here on Saturday Morning, for sure. But,hopefuly,we''ll be going for 11AM-Meet,11:30AM "Roll Off"...Keep posted... But,I think we'll get this Drive in...
As of Friday morning, the weather.com hourly forecast has the rain tapering off by 6:00 a.m. So even if they're off by a couple hours it looks like the rain will be over well before our drive time. See you there! Chuck
Well,my friends. I don't know if it was my "No Rain Dance" all night. (I'm alittle sore, but once I slide into my Ferrari, will feel all better... ) Or,that Mother Nature is a Ferrari/Car Lover, and decided to give us a nice day to do our Drive... Either way....WE DRIVE!!!! So,we will meet at the South West Corner of the Yorktown Shopping Center,in Lombard. (By Butterfield Rd.-RT.56,and Highland Av.) By the Buca Di Beppo Restaraunt. At 11:00AM. Then,"Roll off" at 11:30AM. We should hit,er,arrive at Starved Rock by 1:00PM ish. No fee to get in,if we go in. We will find a place for Lunch,(reasonable) out that way somewhere. My Cell# is: 630-292-3869 Call if you are running a little late, but are on your way. We'll wait for you. But, please try to make it by Roll off time,as,there is a SLIGHT chance of light showers later in the Afternoon, and we want to be ahead of that. And,make sure that you have some Change for the Tolls on I-355. There are only 2. When we get on,I believe .25c. And,at the end,.50c. (I-55 and I-80 are not tollways.) Thanks!!!
Great group of guys & gals @ Starved Rock. Some nice machines too. Rocket Boy... You have it going on. Great AMG. Ohhh, and that red 365 GT4 was to die for. Frank! Great gathering. Nice job on putting that together. My son had a ball with your son. Lovely 308, and I want to mention Dave's white 1989 328. A gem. I am sure I will see you all later next season. By the way. I think all the wifes should get a nice warm coffee for joining us. Next time I will try to remember to pack some in the trunk!
i had a blast, it was really nice meeting everyone hope we can pull together some drives like this next season. big thumbs up to chuck for scouting the route for us. Rocketboy, hopefully well see the 575 next season and let me know if ur interested in any pictures. thanks again guys. mike ps. frank thanks for lunch!
Well, first I want to make sure that everyone made it back,O.K. I took up the Rear on the way back, and didn't pass anyone,so I guess everyone did. Michael,It was Great to meet You and Your Son. My 7 Year old son,and yours really hit it off. I love that Prugna/Crema Mondial T. Beautiful! And,Dave (and Mrs.) It was also really nice to meet you. And your '89 328 is absolutely spotless! It was really great to meet you all of you guys, and that you drove up from Peoria to meet us at Starved Rock. Well certainly be doing this again... Steve,(and Lady) Great to finally meet you. I LOVE that 365BB. I bet those Webers really liked the Cold,Crisp Air today... That 12 Cylinder sure sounds nice.... And,speaking of Cool Cars...Not only does David,(Rocketboy) never cease to amaze me with the Cars he has...But,instead of the 575 Maranello...Today he brings a Black,Brand New Mercedes AMG SL55! What a Car!!! And the Girls at Starved Rock thought you were an F1 driver or something... And,I can't take the credit for this Great Drive...That all goes to Chuck,(Chasking) He certainly mapped out an incredible Route...Unbelievable! For everone that missed, you really did miss a Fantastic Drive. I have to say that as far as Driving goes,it was the Best one to Date. And,the way that Alfa took those Curves.... If you went to the Wisconsin Drive that we had back in Spring...That was a great Drive, too. But,on this one..Add LOTS of "S" Curve Roads. Hills and Valleys. Scenery. Desolate Country Roads. It was a Blast! And,definitely a Keeper for next Year! And,It was great meeting all of you other guys, too. What do you think?... And,last of all....Starved Rock was really Beautiful. We'll DEFINITELY have top get out there again! Hope that everyone had a Great Time...Frankie and I sure did!!!
What a glorious day! To paraphrase no less than William Shakespeare (not a Ferrari owner, but who may at one time have ridden a prancing horse): "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; For he today who sheds his [oil] with me, Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile, This day shall gentle his condition. And [Fchatters] in [Chicago], now abed, Shall think themselves accursed they were not here; And hold their manhoods cheap whilst any speaks That [drove] with us upon St. Crispin's day!" ---Henry V, Act IV, Scene III, 60-67. Eleven intrepid souls and six eager vehicles met in windy Lombard to set forth upon the Drive: fchatters red81308, Steve B, RocketBoy, caps8419, aj2488, and yours truly, plus assorted family members and friends. Spirits were high. Prior to departure, the assembled crew admires the engine of Steve B's 365BB: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
We rolled off relatively close to on time and after a brief run on the Interstates to get warmed up we arrived (with only minor drama en route) in Channahon, to begin the actual drive. From then on I was far too busy throwing the car through the twisties to take any pictures, which is too bad because I wish I could show the rest of you a few shots of the roads we covered. We arrived, invigorated and hungry, at Starved Rock State Park: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Note RocketBoy's sharp duds. He came tricked out in Team Jaguar racing paraphernalia. At lunch, the restaurant set up an area for us off to one side of the dining room, and RocketBoy ended up seated more or less at the head of the table. Towards the end of the meal, the hostess came over and said other patrons had been asking if he was someone famous! He claims he is not. Image Unavailable, Please Login
As we were arriving at the restaurant, Dave from Peoria rolled up in his sharp white 328. He told us tales of great roads down by Peoria---I think next year we need to do a Peoria-and-back day trip, especially since we now know at least a couple cool Ferrari drivers from down that way. After lunch we discovered that another F-car had joined us in the parking lot: Michael B had arrived in his Mondial t coupe. Michael B is also from Peoria. I had read his posts in Mondial-related threads but I didn't know he was in the neighborhood, so to speak. Here's a picture of his car, but no photo can do justice to the amazing color: Prugna. It's kind of a brownish purple, which sounds yucko, but in person it looks fantastic. This is my new favorite color for a Mondial, which is too bad since the number of Prugna Mondials in the whole world is probably in the single digits. Image Unavailable, Please Login
On the way home, I tried to keep up with RocketBoy and Aj2488 as they played tag along I-80 and I-55, but that was only possible due to the interference of slower traffic. I guess that's the difference between a 2-liter naturally aspirated I-4 and a 5.5-liter supercharged V-8! RocketBoy's car: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
To those of you I didn't know before, it was great to meet you. To those of you I did know, it was great to see you again. To the rest of you: you really missed out on a fantastic event! Frank says there are lots of cool driving events in the works for next year. This should be fun! Chuck
My wife and I would like to say how much we enjoyed the Drive!!! What a great bunch of people and cars and some spirited driving thrown in with it. Special thanks to Frank for organizing the event and Chuck for providing the stimulating route. I am also happy to see that the FOC reaches to Peoria, close to my hometown. Steve
