Our Last "Big Drive" for the Season is this Saturday,Oct.23rd. We will meet at Yorktown Shopping Center in Lombard,IL. at 11:00AM-Roll off at 11:30AM. (We'll meet at the SouthWest corner of the Parking Lot by Highland Av. and Butterfield Rd....You'll see the Buca Di Beppo Restaraunt) Our Drive will take us SouthWest, outside of Joliet,Channahon, and To Starved Rock. There will be plenty of opporunities for some,"Spirited Driving",and some great Photo Ops,especially by Starved Rock, wih the Rocks, and the River, and the Fall Foliage. And,we can have Lunch out there. Rain Date will be Sat. October 30th. Same time, same place.
And,Yes,we have 2 Drives Planned for this weekend, but they are Different. Try to attend Both,if you can...But,at least one...The Weather is changing fast! Not too many opportunities left! The Saturday Drive will be a little farther, with plenty of opportunities for some "Spirited Driving". And,unexplored Territory... With Starved Rock, and the Illinois River. The Sunday Drive will be more relaxed. Starting out with a Great Bruch, then driving the nice, curvy Trails of the Morton Arboretum. Bring a Bottle of your Favorite Vino, too! Bring your Camera both Days!
How many miles is the trip and how long will it take time wise? Do you really care what car we bring? I am tempted to bust out a Honda Hybrid and really show you some spirited driving. RocketBoy
See the Thread,Originally Posted by Chuck,"Great Route for Drive to Starved Rock". Thats the Route we'll be taking. It is about 45 Miles. And,shouldn't take more than 3 Hours or so,total.(There and back...Plus Lunch). If we leave at 11:30AM. Should be through the Drive and at Starved Rock by 1:00PM-Ish. have some Lunch. Take some Pix,then head back...Either through the same Routes,or,if not just on the Highway. I-80,to I-55 to I-355,Home. When you get on I-355. It only takes a half Hour or so to get to I-55 and I-80. Then, the "Drive" will go through Scenic,Quiet,2 Lane Country Roads.
I checked weather.com again and the forecast is getting better for Saturday: highs now in the UPPER 60s, and sun in the afternoon.
Yes,maybe we'll still get our "Indian Summer". (Can I still say that? Not sure anymore,With all of the Politically Correct mire that we're stuck wallowing through these days... ) Yes,maybe we'll get still get our "Native American Summer" this Weekend...And,if it is yet to come AFTER This weekend...anyone up for another Drive?.... All of the Weather Reports that I've seen so far for this weekend,(Early to count on yet) Say Nice,Milder Temps, and NO RAIN! TOD! You gotta put some pressure on that guy to get your car done by the weekend!!!! (But,if it's absolutely impossible. Fret not...We may still have another Drive or two,if the Weather holds out.... )
hey, any of you guys mind if i tag along in my mazda? my buddy and i take semi-pro photos and would like to get some of the cars w/ fall foliage on the road etc... if you dont mind.... any objections? oh, please ask if you want specific pics of your car or what not. thanks mike
Just said/posted I would go to Dave B's Morton trip, but I will try to make it to this one as well. The 575 has been acting up so I would really like to bring Ford Windstar and place shields all over it. RocketBoy
No,but I suspect that now that the Cold Weather is drawing near,we should have a good turn out, both days. I think that most would like to get in some good driving before the Winter. I know that I certainly do... But,as of right now, they are saying possible rain for Saturday......You never know until you wake up that Morning, though. If it is bad,we'll postpone until the following weekend.
Rain in the morning... I'll still go. I'll bring my Escort S2, supposedly the world's best cordless detector ( whatever. ) But I think the lead car should use it as the angles of the windshields on the cars I use it seem to kill its performance. For example, on an S class Benz Ipass doesn't work unless you hold the Ipass out the sunroof. WTF? RocketBoy
I checked the hour-by-hour forecast for tomorrow for Channahon, IL, at weather.com, and they are predicting that the rain will end in the morning. This is consistent with the TV news weather forecast from last night. Since under the proposed schedule we will not arrive in Channahon to start the interesting part of the drive till about noon anyway, this means that WE SHOULD NOT HAVE RAIN FOR THE ACTUAL DRIVE. So, although it may be rainy and gloomy when you wake up and look out the window tomorrow, keep in mind that the storms are going to be moving away from our drive route and they should be gone by the time we get there. We may even have sun (gasp) for the drive home. So, I'll see you all (well, those of you with cars made of something other than spun sugar) tomorrow! Chuck
Any idea where you guys will be @ for Photos & Lunch at Starved Rock? I am going to try to meet up with you around 1:00 PM?? But where would I find the group at Starved Rock?
Re Lunch, there is a restaurant at the Starved Rock lodge, or there was also some discussion of stopping at an interesting-looking place in one of the towns along the way. (Anyone have recommendations in Morris, Seneca, Ottawa or Utica? I know a fun drive-in in Peru, but that's a little further up the road.) We could always do a picnic at Starved Rock, although the picnic facilities might still be a little damp.
well, ill meet you guys at the mall around 11ish (ill be there kinda early, look for the lazer blue protege) see you guys there! mike hope its not too wet!!!!!
ditto.... im in class until 10. so post your thoughts ill check before i leave. see you all later! mike
Yes...so far,so good. It stopped Raining by My house, just wet out. And,I'm not too far from Yorktown Shopping Center. We can maybe make the meeting time a bit later, though. And,"Roll Off' by Noon. My Cell # is: 630-292-3869.
I'll be there. I checked the weather again and it looks like what we're seeing now is indeed the tail end of the storm system that came through overnight. It now looks like it will stay cloudy, but it looks likely that the actual rain is through. (Cross fingers, knock on wood.)
After my last post,I just had to run my Daughter out to Roselle. It is still Raining VERY Hard. And,I took 355 back to Butterfield, and it's rainiing hard back here too. I am going to have to Cancel for today. If the Roads were just wet, that would be one thing. But,it's started POURING again out this way. 355 was really bad. And,I couldn't see any break in the Clouds as far west as I could see.... Maybe next Weekend? I mean, alot of then "point" for this Drive was some "Spirited Driving" on deserted Country Roads...Can't do that,(safely,)in the Rain....
Bummer!... Well,we ended up having to go to our "Rain Date" of Saturday October 30th. Will post later what time to meet. Meeting Place will be the same. ...And now the Sun comes out.... Tod,maybe your Baby will be done by Next Weekend... And,Michael (in the Blue Protege) Sorry 'bout that...maybe you guys can join us next Weekend...Weather Permitting. We'll just have to 'play it by Ear' until next Saturday....
its cool frank, we ended up getting some work done at fox valley motorcars. (they liked our pictures). ill keep checking and well see! mike
BTW...Chuck (Chasking) and Mike (caps8419) I got your Gas for next weeks Drive...'Preciate you guys coming all the way out here in the rain today....Then,to find that about an Hour or so later, the Sun came out and stayed out.....Hopefully,we'll be ON for Next Saturday now....
yea i know it was a shame, i was just hoping you guys wouldn't just push it back a couple hours and go anyways w/ out me! hehe. by the way chuck, nice to meet you. and thanks for coming w/ the info! looking forward to next weekend (hopefully) mike
