I think the problem is more serious. Even though the key is not in the ignition the power is on to everything and the seat belt buzzer goes off! I thought it was the relay for the ignition key controlled circuits, so I exchanged it with another comparable relay from the horn and the problem still exists! I gues it is either the main circuit board or the electric control units under the passenger's foot rest.

It might be your hazard warning switch has shorted out. Pull the fuse for it to see if all of the rest of the power drops out.

I do not have a wiring diagram for a Mondial 8, but i would start with two things.

    1. Disconnect the ignition switch wiring connector.

Follow the wires under the steering column from the ignition switch. There should be a connector on the right side of the steering column under/behind the dash panel. If the power goes off, the problem is in the ignition switch.

    2. Pull fuses, circuit breakers, and/or relays out of the fuse block, one at a time. If one of the fuses/circuits disconnects the power, check that circuit for a problem.

    Good luck,

Thanks for your reply! I discomnnected the relay for the check control circuit and the check control monitor lights go out. Then, I plugged it back in and disconnected the ignition swich connector and the power goes out. So, it must be the ignition switch?

Most f-cars of this era have a black plastic ignition switch module on the back side of the ignition switch were the key enters. It is notorious for wearing out/ melting and causing exactly your problem /symptoms. There are several threads on this in the technical and 308 forums.. Look under the steering column and locate this module. You will see that it is secured by two slot-head machine screws. It has five or six wires on spade connectors. Label them. It can be accessed /removed by removing the column cowling. It is a BMW part, made by SWF Germany. It costs <>$100USD. Do not buy the Chinese one. Go to the threads , and proceed. It is not physically easy, but you can do this. This is one of those jobs in Ferraridom that you may chose to ignore, because you will spend a couple of hours virtually on your head, but just think of the cost of the dealership doing this for you, and charging you $250-$300 bucks just for the part. This is one of the easiest parts to overlook when chasing starting and ignition related problems. I hope that this is of some value to you. Good night, and...good luck. Jq.
