looking at a 456m. the wheels seem rather small. does anybody have any experience putting bigger wheels on them? and does anybody know how to reduce that big gap between the rear wheel and wheel arch?

Here's a set of cheapo 19" G-Force rims on my 456M. I've also purchased a very nice set of HRE wheels (19 as well). The G-force have spacers all around (1.25" back, 1" front, see my previous posts for pictures of the install and spacers). The HREs are custom-built to the 456 offset. You reduce the space by a combination of wheel/tire size and offset. For the pics below, the tires are about 0.5" out from the originals (with the offsets, above).

Here's another shot of my '00 456 MGT with the 19/20 Giovanna GFG's. I know wheels are a personal taste, but I believe it makes the car look much more "modern". I also sprayed the bottom of the bumpers and rockers to make the color homogenous rather than the black cladding. I made no suspension changes. The car drives great and ride is not significantly altered but turn in is certainly crisper.

IMO the 550 rims fit the 456 the best.
Thank you for posting that pic.
