Was out all day and didn't see the news of the huge quake that triggered the tsunami this morning in SE Asia. I hope no F-chatters and their loved ones were affected. Terrible day. :(

    Indeed Buba,

My parents are staying in Pattaya - thailand.
I was alsoo contacted by friend who told me that there has been an earth quake in SE asia. What surprised me, I was trying to contact my parents whole day. But no connection, at least I could talk to them after several phone calls. Everything seems to be Ok in Pattaya. But how horrible for Phuket en the rest of SE asia. I feel with all the people who have lost somebody.

And you guy's from that area let us know how things are there !

    Kind regards,
    Kinnie,

I just came back from Puket a few hours ago. We were on the small boat transfering us back from Maya Bay back to the cruise ship we were on only two minutes before the first one hit the bay. Our ship had to send out its life boats to help gather people who were stuck on the island for the next hour or so.

We were inside another of the horrible scene yesterday about the same time as it did it today. Thank God for our schedule was set as ti was. Otherwise we would have been inside the cave exactly at the same time and it could have been us. I had my whole family with me!

We were on a big ship and sailing far from shore so we felt nothing. However the port didn't think it was safe for us to dock as scheduled so we had to delay our flight back accordingly. The airport was very hectic but we were lucky enough that our flight also was delayed from its original point and were about to depart when we got to the airport. Due to a large amount of people on the flight were in our group, they waited.

Life can change in a fracture of a second. Live it well.

My sympathy to those in the area where a direct hit occured, and those who have lost loved ones.

I now have been in an epicenter of one 7.something quake in California, and almost in the middle of another bad effect by an 8.3 one. I think I've had enough of a quake in this life time.

It's a catastrophe without limits, I've heard reports saying up to 11.000 dead so far, toll rising. It's unbelieveable... My deepest condolences to all affected an to the families.. especially to the family of the danish tourists who have been killed..

    I am stunned.. :(

My prayers are with the F-Chatters in the areas hit by the quake and also anyone else effected, lets just hope now nature does not get the most of us. Also the pictures on the BBC website have me very concerened about the future of these countries.

    P. Pwongd,
I'm glad you and your family made it back safely. I was so worried b'coz I recalled our conversation during our FCT gathering, about your trip to Phuket . It must have been terrifying. Don't have your phone #, so couldn't call to check.
Anyway, stay safe .. and Take Care.

    Thank you for your concern,
I am and Jaturon are in Bangkok at the time. I believe Jaturon's brother who is a famous movie star was right there at the beach where the big wave hit but I heard him on the radio this morning talking to the news reporter so I think he is ok. All my family members are ok but I heard many of my friends and clients visited Phuket and PP island. My heart go out to them...

It is quite unbelievable, unreal but I think we all have to cope with such loss of lifes. Many welknown people have been missing and some pronounced dead so my heart goes out to their friends and relatives. I think there would be more losses than first reported.

Glad to hear that you and your family are fine.
That was a close call, unfortunately others were not as fortunate.
May all of them rest in peace.

My flight leaves in two hours for Phuket. I'm off to survey the damage from that huge tidal catastrophe, expecting Baht 900 million loss, bringing the cheque book and a lots of tissue.

As you can see f chatters on this thread are unharmed but I do not know about a few of our FCT friends as this is a holiday season here also and some would elect to spend their vacation down south especially Phuket and PP. It would be days before we know the real casulties.

Your gesture and concern are very much appreciated especially at this tragical time. I just wish that the total fatality figures would not rise anymore.
One of the sadest days in the history of Thailand.

Everyone : Thank you very much for your kind words. This is something no one is prepared for. It's so sad that this has to happen to the people who were having a good time with their family on such a nice day.

K.Jaturon, K.Moo, K.Choopong : Thanks guys. I barely made it out of Maya Bay before it all happened. But on a big ship, it was strangely quiet. However, I am glad to be back.

K.Theera : Good luck to you krub. I hope the estimated loss is just that, an estimate. It's really devastating to see the pictures from the papers today. I didn't realize the seriousness of the damage until this morning. You travel safely.
