...with apologies, to that 'lil old band from TEXAS!!!!!! Glad to be back among friends here, sorry for the absence..... Got lots of news on the personal front, MOST of it good.....damn Ferrari developed a misfire!!
Okay, here's the deal.....I'll be at South Congress at Live Oak...beautiful SoCo, tons of places to eat, no worries there, or the HEB at Oltorf, one block south we'll get to grillin'!! Look for the green house (SW corner) with the giant goofy mosaic sculpture in the esplanade, Austin is about ART baby! You can sit in it and take a picture, that's cool. I'll put the blue 308GTB in the yard, and wrap it in twinkle lights, maybe make it into a champagne fountain or something.... I have responded to everyone's PMs with my cell numbers (thanks to all of you, great friends every one!) and so call me BEFORE you get to the track, the cell towers saturate and only text may work there!! If that.. Park in the street, curbside...both sides of the esplanade, or at the Adlucent building to the north....or I'm sure Tree House (Italian food) would love some Ferraris over there (east side of Congress, by the Lingerie Store) too! TONS of room!! My host's name is "Sterling" his new wife is "Sharon", and I'm "the guy that came with the house, sleeping on the sofa".... She even bought me a new sofa! Good Girl.. He is an Austin fireman, music buff, and motorcyclist...Yamaha FJ1200 and an Ariel Square 4.
I think the WORLD movie premiere of "1" at the Paramount Theater is the hot ticket for Thursday night, tickets are only $15, and the Red Carpet at 7PM may be quite interesting, given the history subject matter of the film Nicki Lauda???? Mario Andretti? Current drivers???? I'm thinking "yes" maybe!!! It starts at 7:30....sadly I can't make it that early, as Valeria could not leave work early...so anyway.....we'll hit town about 8:30, most likely... Jesse Dayton at the Broken Spoke!! That's over on South Lamar (west of Congress, Oltorf going west dead ends into it) and he plays 9:30 until midnight....they have great food there, CFS and BBQ, but order early before the kitchen closes...Last Call at midnight then I MIGHT need some sleep before my 4AM alarm clock goes off, I have to be at Track by 5AM..... Oh, parking lot at Spoke has been taken TOTALLY, by a construction project, so watch for it on the left (going south) and pull in and park across the street...or use the Valet!!! See? Austin is going ALL OUT for you!!! EDIT: Forgot the Willie Nelson, Asleep at The Wheel et al, show.....there's a pair of tickets for sale on COTA's FB site, by a cute blond from Houston..$300 each for the floor seats.. The ceiling is only "low" if you are over six feet tall, like Jesse (on stage riser) or myself and David Beebe (not on stage, on the floor!!!) On Friday there is a LOT of stuff! Jagbuff posted in the other "Austin gatherings thread" about the FCA BBQ at Camp Mabry, so maybe he can vouch for non FCA members there??? I have no details....... We are going to head down South Congress (of course) to The Continental Club, home of the normal Hot Rod scene here, to catch the newly reunited Wagoneers, and also Two Hoots and a Holler, Ricky Broussard's great band.....There's ton's of places to eat around it, and food trucks, and women, women, and MORE women! *SMACK!! Shoe hits...* I know, baby...jus' SAYIN'!!! I have seen shows here where the band forgot Last Call, and played until 3AM or so...we will see. I heard Europeans party late, but THEY are not going back to work at 5AM!!! Friday night also has the VIP RACE PARTY, at 4 Seasons Hotel downtown, $500 seats get you mingling with "who knows who?" and would be a great event, if you brought your tux!!!! Mine's a 44L if you need one.....I'll pack it!
Saturday night you SHOULD be home getting some rest, but Two Hoots and a Holler moves to East 6th street, to Club 606, a rockabilly hang out (MORE Hot Rods!) and that should be fun.. Charlie Robison brings the family bus in from Bandera, and sets up camp at historic Antone's, which has moved downtown...and that will be a great show by a Texas Native son.. He's still hurting from the Dixie Chick divorcing him, but somehow, filling that bus with UT coed groupies seems to ease the pain! He's crying inside, I just know it....what a sensitive guy...... Sunday is the race of course, but there's some good shows that night, too....I'm "off work" Monday so ya'll come by and say "goodbye"on the way out of town!! Dale Watson at Genny's Little Longhorn, for 'Chicken s^&%*^ Sunday' (an odd from of gambling)... And usually Haybale with Redd Volkhart, closes the weekend with an evening show at the Continental Club... Others feel free to ADD or chime in here, with "what you know, or PM me for my cell numbers.....anyway, it's ON THE ROLL! Let me know if anyone has a last minute issue, Dr. Tommy needs to borrow a car.....anybody else? We need to go look for stripper Michelle, she's down South Congress to Expose, just north of Hwy. 71......flawless...she is flawless.....
Thanks Alan for the updates. I'll be off South Congress so I'm not that far off from the action. Spent the afternoon working on my 2 wheeled backup plan, almost go for launch!
You need to go look on Facebook, find 'Lisa Dedman Venable" with a message, she might want to ride down with you..she's a COTA Volunteer and was asking in our Private Group for "DFW peeps"... Ur a peeps! Look at this I found for you.... Just check in with Sterling, and ride to the Fire Station with them... Image Unavailable, Please Login
