If you plan a vacation in Hawaii & want a bike to ride every day, would you:
    1. have one built on the islands & purchase?
    2. purchase a stock bike from LBS?
    3. just use a rental?

#3 unless you plan to bring the bike back home with you after your vacation then #1 and 2 is ok. :)

Depending on how long your vacation is, you might look on craigslist and then resell when you leave.

I just talked to my sister about going there for this. Have decided I'll call/email LBS to see what is on the floor but & will probably have to order something or buy used to find in my size. I really want to enjoy the ride. Shipping is usually less than $75 for a bike in the in 48 but.... Have you ever done a bike vaco?

    4. Take my own bike. who wants to play around with getting a new/rental fitted properly and setup for serious riding. ship it or pack it.

assuming you know what type of riding you want to do - off-road, cruising, climbing, descending, roadie?

many friends have taken riding holidays, and all have taken their own rigs.
