Aircon I see you owned a Suzuki GSX1400? The average "car" guy just has NO IDEA just how quick a good bike is. I've owned 3 Hyabussas (with outrigger wheels a standard one will do 0-100 in high 2's ! !).
    Also Kwaka ZX10R, M.V. Agusta, GSXR600, CBR600RR (racers).
They're heaps of fun but can bite.

I remember in my relative youth when I had a GSX-R 750 I thought that if a legislator ever threw a leg over one of these things, they would be banned in a flash. A powerful bike is like nothing else. :D

Car performance doesn't even compare to bikes does it? I'm no biker but I did have a 1990 GSX 750F.... which is a fat tourer, it still blew away anything on 4 wheels in its day.

Bloody thing "cork screwed" around sweeping corners and scared the crap out me, I think I use the rear brake too much too, and backed it in to too many corners..... I haven't ridden on the road since.

I rode a powerful dirt bike a couple of weeks ago.... staggering grip off road. Just reminded me why I don't ride bikes though.....

Big respect to good bike riders... Cars are easy in comparison IMO.

i grew up on dirt-bikes, bought my first 250cc kwaka when i was like 12 or 13. wouldn't touch a road-bike over 250cc, my life isn't that valuable, but i value it more than the 10 minutes it would take to end it on a crotch rocket.

to true ash, i recently got my bike L's and have had a fair bit of experience on dirt bikes and love them to death, (its pretty fun going up hills sideways on a 2 stroke animal that you can barely keep in band) i looked at buying a road bike the only reason i didnt was that i want to own an F car before i die...

    i had a drag once...me in the F40 and a mate on a GSX1100R. F40 won....easily. (rolling start from about 80kph)

Left a glass 308GTB in a cloud of dust (sorry, GV)

I know things have come a long way with bikes, but they're not as fast as one thinks I reckon.

What sort of bike would it take for an amateur rider to do a 1.49 at PI like my 355 does?

Brain ticking over for that one? :p

Seriously, lets compare apples to apples. Cars have alot more features than motorbikes. Most have a roof. You don't die, if you a accident less than 50km'h. Usually you can fit 2 or more people. It carries luggage. You don't need a helmet or leathers just to go down to the shops(legally anyway).

Next thing you will realise that Cars are awesome compared to a Truck :p

Bikes are great for what they do, ie: going fast for cheap, ultimate loner experience, but its no Car nor will it ever replace it :p How many ppl ONLY own a Bike.

Im a fan of Bikes but apples with apples, apples with apples :)

Bet the guy on the GSXR wasn't a racer. I'll dig out some acceleration figures for the Hyabusa.
My best ever at P.I. (last year) was a 1:48.2" on a Supersport GSXR600, but the kids regularly do low 40s ! ! Tres ballsy ! ! Bear in mind we're only doing around 265 down the straight (my F5000 Lola around 305k/h for a time of 1min 31" !) and a bike can generate no more than 1g in a corner. It's all relative. But I have great respect for quick bike guys.

a guy who's quick on a bike has amazing skill.

The GSX guy wasn't a racer, but then, neither am i! not sure you need too much skill to go in a straight line, though.

Bikes sort of hit a (relatively) brick wall at about 150-200 though.

Pee Pee, go to www.everything2.com and search GSX1300R (Bussa).
    Top speed 317, 0-200 7.6", 1/4 mile 10",
    Lambo Diablo 20-180 10.41", Bussa 5.8".
These acceleration figures are without outrigger wheels and for pre '03 bikes (unresdticted).
They are what could be described as a weapon !

Yeah, a current superbike is easily capable of low 40's with a decent rider. They will also beat just about anything from a rolling start up to 240kmh.
Stock bikes have 155-180hp at the rear wheel, with a wet weight of less than 200kg. There isn't an F40 around that will take a current model GSXR1000, for example.
I used to race bikes in my 964 Turbo, which ran turbo cup upgrades extra boost, injectors etc. I could beat most bikes quite easily off the line, which used to be fun. However in a race to anything more than about 100kmh, my ass was grass. The other thing I learned is many riders of powerful bikes, just don't know how to ride properly in the first place.

from a rolling start of, say, 100kph, i'd back the F40..but like i said...forgetting about supercars, bikes are otherwise mostly impossible to beat.

having said that, my 105hp GSX1400 wouldn't see which way even my 355 would go, never mind an F40.

i got my road train license 9 years ago, and i've had fun in fast cars and love my ducati but get me in a 50 tonne rig 42+ wheel rig and take the road ranger 18 speed right out to 95 mph and the feeling of power is awesome, especially when you need 2km to stop, and whatever gets in the way gets kamoomed to smitherines aka roos, cows, buffalo cars whatever

a big rig is the ducks guts

999 with 155hp@RW, weight 178kg wet, rider 86kg in leathers (yes really this was 2 yrs ago). 185hp approx, 264kg power to weight =1.427kg/hp.
700hp, 1400kg+80kg driver= power to weight 2.11kg/hp. If you ever race a quick car on a bike, make sure it is a rolling start pref 60kmh+
