Russian Billionaire Kerimov in Critical Condition After Crash 2006-11-26 12:01 (New York) By Rudy Ruitenberg and Todd Prince Nov. 26 (Bloomberg) -- Russian billionaire and parliamentarian Suleiman Kerimov was hospitalized in critical condition at Marseille's major burns center after his Ferrari crashed and burst into flames in Nice on the French Riviera. Kerimov, 40, was transported by helicopter to the Centre Regional des Grands Brules in Marseille, where he arrived early yesterday evening, after his condition was stabilized in Nice, said Denis Burgarella, a spokesman for Assistance Publique Hopitaux de Marseille. Kerimov, worth $7.1 billion according to Forbes magazine, crashed his Ferrari Enzo around 3:30 p.m. yesterday on the Promenade des Anglais, the boulevard that runs along the Nice shoreline, according to a spokesman for the Police Nationale who declined to be identified according to regulations. The sports car caught fire and Kerimov was ``seriously injured,'' according to the spokesman. Kerimov ranked No. 72 in Forbes magazine's annual survey of the world's richest people published in March. His wealth derives from stakes in OAO Gazprom, Russia's natural-gas export monopoly, and OAO Sberbank, eastern Europe's largest bank. He also owns OAO MNPO Polymetal, Russia's biggest silver miner. He hired Merrill Lynch & Co. to make his investment company OAO GNK Nafta Moskva one of the world's top private-equity firms, the London-based Times newspaper reported in August. Kerimov also is a member of the Duma, the lower house of the Russian parliament. A female passenger in the black Ferrari was also injured, Agence France-Presse reported, citing police. Hospital spokesman Burgarella declined to comment on Kerimov's survival chances, saying a patient must be in a stable condition for 48 hours for an assessment. Kerimov was born in Dagestan in Russia's Caucasus region.
Its more that whenever one crashes, you hear about it right away. I can only remember like 5 major Enzo crashes including this one. RIP to those who died in thier accidents, and a speedy recovery to this latest man.
Could you consider the Ericksson guy rich even though his money was stolen? Do they know how fast he was going and are there any pictures of the Enzo?
I guess so. But I know what you mean. FYI, Pablo Escobar was once on the Forbes Rich list. But back on topic, I wish this guy a speedy recovery. Glad no one was killed. V..

Yeah but that thread is a huge mess. This one is short and a lot more accurate from the start. The guy was "killed" in that other thread. *sigh*
While it is likely, I highly doubt that he only went 60mph when looking at how the car looks. It's not only broken in half, but there isn't a single place on the car that is undamaged.
One of the the tail light seems ok and the front right side marker looks ok too as well as the front fender badge.
If it was much more than 60, the pieces would have gone a lot further. A lot of the damage is probably from fire. Here's my reply to the other thread: Originally Posted by Napolis View Post All right???? They are far, far from all right. Please do consider a fire system in all your cars... This is the second crash of almost exactly the same type in just over a month - apparently relatively low speed on a surface street, hit a tree just off the side of the road, massive fire. Nobody seems to want to talk much about the other one, though. I agree with Jim that a fire system should be considered a critical component in these cars. Jim, what do you use in the P 4/5? Chris
I could see that at 60mph. You slide off the road for some reason, right into that tree. Would split the car in half just like it did. It's possible he hit a patch of water and hydroplaned, etc. Who knows. Either way, I feel really sorry for him and hope they both have a good recovery. It's always a shame to hear about these things. So is the life of Ferrari owners.
geez..another one. My best to the driver and passenger for a speedy recovery. But I do have one thought however..Is there a problem with the Enzo we don't know about? Is it a tail happy car even with all the driver aids? Why are so many of them getting smashed up in seemingly the same manner? Thats 6 now that we know about is it not?? I hate to say this, but have a look at wrecked exotics .com. Have a look at the Ferrari accidents, 360/430 take note of. There seems to be a very distrubing trend with the type of accident damage, and the manner in which they crashed.
My guess would be , any car with 660 HP can be tail happy. It doesn't take much to to get yourself into trouble with these cars. Truth is, if it were a Merc or BMW, there wouldn't be nearly the coverage. Darrell.
