TV pitchman Billy Mays found dead in Tampa home By Drew Harwell, Times Staff Writer Posted: Jun 28, 2009 11:46 AM TAMPA Billy Mays, the TV pitchman whose trademark voice helped sell everything from cleaning supplies to baking soda, was found dead this morning by his wife at his Tampa home. No cause of death has been reported and no foul play is suspected, according to Tampa police. Mays, 50, was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. at 2853 Bowen Daniel Dr., #1201. His wife, Deborah Mays, found him unresponsive this morning. The Medical Examiner's Office will complete Mays' autopsy by tomorrow afternoon. "Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days," Deborah Mays said in a statement today. "Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times." Mays was a passenger Saturday of the 737 aircraft that took a hard landing at Tampa International Airport, an airport spokeswoman said.
His show "Pitchmen" was actually pretty entertaining and an interesting perspective on that industry.
Yeah... We still have Anthony Sullivan!!! I blame it on Vince and the Extreme left wing ShamWow Party!!!!
No kidding. RIP Billy Mays. Check out this video of Billy rolling through a McD's drive through and ordering. Pretty funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtYdDK1uTDI
Sad quote from his son this AM on twitter - "My dad didn't wake up this morning. I'm sure you'll all hear about it. It hasn't yet hit me but it's about to."
Dont know if youve seen the clips, but Billy was interviewed on TV yesterday after the hard landing and said things were falling from overhead bins I was hit, but I have a hard head .
What's the intrigue with this guy? I guess he was all over the TV and seemed to be a likable guy. Tough break but his death sure is getting a lot of coverage. RIP.
Hmm, maybe a closed-head brain swelling like Natasha Richardson? Mental note, if I ever get hit hard in the head, go to the hospital for a checkup.
nope not a bang on the head but Hypertensive Heart Disease http://www.mymotherlode.com/news/national/news_detail.php?ID=347793&DK=US%20Billy%20Mays
Coke. http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2009/08/07/2009-08-07_tv_pitchman_billy_mays_.html AP TAMPA, Fla. DEVELOPING: An autopsy report says cocaine contributed to the death of TV pitchman Billy Mays. The 50-year bearded TV personality died of a heart attack in his sleep. His wife found him unresponsive June 28 at their condo in Tampa, Fla. PHOTOS: Billy Mays' Top 10 TV products. A release from the Hillsborough County medical examiner's office Friday said Mays had last used cocaine days before his death. The report said that although Mays died from heart disease, cocaine use was a contributing cause of death.
Cocaine was a contributing factor in his death. He had used it a few days prior. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32334881/ns/us_news-life/?GT1=43001 If I could ask a simple question, why the hell would a guy who was as wealthy and successful use cocaine? Seriously he had it all and certainly didn't appear to be stupid. Even the health concerns aside, what about the legal problems he would have if he got caught. It makes you wonder how many celebrities are coked up most of their lives. EDIT: beat me to it by a minute!

It was probably a combination of addiction and it gave him the energy to work the long hours he probably did. My friend bro-in-law is/was a truck driver. He said cocaine use was really high among cross country truck drivers so they could stay awake and meet the demands. This was in the late '90's he told us this.
