So I took my leaking rear shocks off and got them ready to send off to Bilstein for rebuilding. I called and they said they are no longer rebuilding them as of a few months ago. When was the last time anyone sent them a set?

I haven't tried Delta Vee as I don't want to spend $400 per.

Also, has anyone ever cracked open one of these? I'm wondering if I can fix the leaks myself.

Bilstein never addressed the seal at the adjuster shaft. It was a crap design and they couldn't even replace that. It's a blessing they don't do it anymore.

Delta Vee not only replaces that POS seal, they are using a better design that actually works.

You get what you pay for.

Everyone wants everything on the cheap. I got news, good work doesn't come cheap. $400 for rebuilding a $1800 shock? What does he want? Koni's cost more to rebuild by anyone competent.

+1 For Delta Vee. Rob did a great job on mine in 2013, amazing the difference in handling and very reasonably priced as well. I do not mind paying for quality, the piece of mind and having it done right were well worth the cost.

Lifetime warranty should count for something and Delta Vee gives you one. Do one at a time or a pair if you cannot afford to do all of them.

Right. Delta Vee rebuilt all four of my Challenge shocks last year. Rob Schermerhorn took the time to discuss the type of driving I do prior to the rebuild.

When there's no room for error...

it may be a mute point now if bilstein is no longer in the rebuild business... then your options may be limited .....to delta vee.

Hi Terry, off topic but I tried to send PM. My son has applied as an incoming freshman to UNM. He says he is interested in international Business ( but who knows...). We live in Los Angeles, any opinion, suggestions on UNM would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mel

If you've read any of my posts by now you've probably figured out that I'm not very bright. In the process of disassembling my shocks I tried turning the adjusting knob and reached the conclusion that they don't need rebuilding. It appears that my actuators were not working right. My car road way too soft with the switch in either position and I saw fluid around the tops of the shocks so I thought it was rebuild time. When I turn the actuator they get pretty stiff.

Also, on closer examination it doesn't look like the fluid was coming from the shock body itself, either. Is there some sort of fluid in the actuator?

Follow the advice of all those online here who have been there done that- That's what this place is about- & save yourself some grief

Rebuild the actuators with Captain Z using billet parts and rebuild the shocks with Delta Vee- That's what I did and I've not been Happier

You'll be more satisfied than you imagine and you'll never look back

No. It's shock oil coming out around the adjuster shaft seal.

Based on the many complaints on here about Ferrari parts pricing - That's not always true though is it?

A lot of the time with Ferrari, what you pay is a lot more than what you get! ;)

And as many groundless as not.

In the case of Shocks, to the average mindset

A bad new shock is better then a bad good one

OK I see what you mean and yes that does appear to be the case. I see what appears to be a seal in the actuator. Does this somehow do the sealing job or is there another seal in the shaft?

Gotta agree... People who wanted a car where it was common place to find "bargains" are barking up the wrong tree and had chosen poorly. Can you save money by carefully researching and finding compatible high quality parts that interchange (e.g. Bosch part numbers used on other cars for the same components whether they be sensors, coils, or injectors) sure... but don't expect that to be the norm, expect the high price and be pleasantly pleased when you find a bargain.

Thanks for the tip. I called them and they said they are unable to repair a leak at the top of the shaft.
