The news does not matter. Only results. They could place an AI robot in the job - its just an entity to fire and replace in 2 years. Removing Binotto was not the best idea given the timing towards the next season. Again they need a person in the seat to blame later. The other positions that affect a race or strategy are equally as important at times. This will be fun to watch. Vasseur could be the new hero or, the one to complain about here each week lol! Ferrari lack the capability to define and implement stability due to whatever reason one can choose.
Depends mainly on the next car pace. If the car is a competitive one everything could be a lot easier for Vasseur. If not, the whole team is at risk to implode like 1991-1992..
Binotto should have left long ago, promoting him to TP was a mistake. Fred Vasseur is an excelent choice, and if Simone Resta returns with him, the team will be in much better hands than Binotto/ Mekies
All firing Binotto has done is give Ferrari management their excuse to blow another year. It could have been positive but they are experts in snatching failure from victory.
he is, he left Ferrari cause aparently he and Binotto didn't get along, but he'll most probably be returning.
I’m not so sure about his come back. The technical side of the team seems well balanced right now. At least some stability is needed. Nevertheless Resta would be a good asset I agree.
Yes it's official as of this morning. I am confident he will do very well, he is a true racing man hugely experienced as a winning team owner and founder.
Start the clock............fired in .......................tick tick tick LOL Best non secret of 2022 Vasseur to Ferrari!
As a team manager he is far more qualified than the last four except perhaps Domenicali. I wish Binotto had stayed to run the engineering side. the "best firee" was Maurizio Arrivabene, odious jerk running the team by fear and attempting to intimidate journalists if he did not like their questions. Arrivabene means arrives well so I kept waiting for him to be fired so I could call him Partemale (leaves badly). Here: a good portrait of FV. I am excited as to what he can do with the team. https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/why-vasseur-is-the-right-man-to-lead-ferraris-f1-revival/10410815/
Aparently he had an agreement with Ferrari since Monza, and the coversations began in June, so all the stories about him being a last resource option are Bs.
Yap, as much as Sainz, his daddy and all the santander crew keeps crying and filtering garbage posted by the spanish toilet paper media, it's done, no more free wins for him i guess!
Agree with your assessment of Arrivabene as odious. That way he would not even look at the TV interviewer as he answered (very reluctantly) a question was revolting. And a cigarette company man running an F1 team, Ferrari at that, was just wrong. Domenical just seemed (and still seems) like a spineless whimp, especially coming in after Todt. The only guy I liked—though we didn’t have much opportunity to see what could do—was Mattiacci. Vasseur, I think, will be better than all these guys combined.
Very well could be the best guy for the job. I personally think Andreas Seidl might have better with his technical background, but who knows. Fred already has a rapport with Leclerc. He already has direct dealings with Ferrari with their PU deal. I think building and running a low budget team can be a benefit because a good TP will maximize efficiency. I am certainly glad Ferrari didn't just hire within because I think Ferrari needs a new set of eyes on the program.
Vasseur is maybe not the “best” choice but better than the all the post-Todt guys before him and better than Seidl in my opinion. I don’t get the hype around Seidl—McLaren only went backwards since he took over. And now, he’s done like a Brit at Ferrari—lesson for all those wanting more Brit mercenaries at Ferrari—and just scrammed back home (or closer to home) at his first opportunity. Vasseur is a good combination of a technical mind with a history of running successful open-wheel racing teams, so much better than the Arrivabenes of this world. And he might even decide to live near the team and maybe stay there for more than a few years.
I should have said best of who was available. Was there anyone better that could have been scooped up? To be completely honest, I think it doesn't matter who the Ferrari TP is, I dont expect much change. I think Ferrari is being ran by some incredibly closed minded people that have a noose around the entire company and probably have dug their own grave. To the point that if any super highly regarded people in F1 were available, they wouldn't want to work at Ferrari. That's completely my own opinion of course.
I don't expect much change for 2023. If Ferrari build a rocketship, great, but I think mistakes will still happen as the TP swap happened too late. If the car isn't great (though I expect no worse than 3rd best), might take some of the pressure off. If fans/media start demanding a championship fight "or else", it's game over before we've even started.
