The only thread that I could find about biodiesel is several years old. With today's gas prices, perhaps it's time to start a more current biodiesel thread. Is anybody running biodiesel in their vehicles? A friend of mine knows a guy who has been brewing his own biodiesel for 10 years now. My friend has an unending source of use cooking oil, so he is anticipating the purchase of a new diesel truck. With everybody dumping their big truck gas hogs, and dealerships giving huge discounts on new diesel truck purchases, he is considering a GMC Duramax diesel pickup and running it on home brewed biodiesel. Does anybody know if these vehicles will run biodiesel in their stock condition or is there some sort of conversion to run BIOdiesel over regular diesel? Any of you guys cooking biodiesel in your back yards? And how do you convince your neighbors that you're not running a meth lab?

If you were running a Meth lab, you would be able to pay for gas ;-)

i've seen entire systems for around 2k. there was a really nice one, looked like a regular gas pump. fully self contained just dump in the oil and chemicals and pump out the go juice. it was priced at 7k. the big problem i see is what will you do if the places you're getting the oil from starts charging

You can run it on a regular diesel engine.

About a week or two ago i was watching stacy david's gears' on ESPN or something (he's the guy that used to host Trucks! on TBS). Anyways, he had a cheap and i mean dirt cheap way of producing biodiesel. It was like a basic chemistry set for less than 1k. I knew i should have wrote down the website because i could be making money off of this. I'll try to post it if i can find it.

EDIT: Okay, so my memory isn't great and it isn't THAT, cheap, but for 5k, you could save quite a bit of money. http://www.homebiodieselkits.com/homeprocessors.html

one thing to consider is it is illegal to use home brewed fuel becouse we haven't bent over and paid the tax on it to the greedy gov.

but I'm all for it, in warm climates straight filtered used cooking grease will run the engine. the fats will clog if it gets cold enough though.
