http://palemale.com/ Was in Central Park on Sunday.. More than a dozen times , I have seen a guy with quite an expensive setup, all over the park just hanging out in with equipment set up on tripod..400mm 2.8 canon lens just pointing up.. never took the time to say..Whats up? I spoke to him this weekend, he gave me his card.. Its the Web site above.. Devoted Photographer for sure , Animal Humanitarian as well. Scroll through pages, very nice work.
what a neat site! Thanks for that. Some photos are pretty good. I'm thinking he needs to go on a wilderness trek to make the most of the equipment though.
Not Really...I spoke to him on the east side of the park, maybe 400 feet in from 5th ave., he was shooting the red tailed hawk on its perch, about 29 floors up on 5th ave.. I think it had a 2x telextender inbetween the lens and camera body..so lets see. 400 mm at crop factor 1.5 equals 600mm X 2 equals 1200mm at 5.6f Most of his shots are from far away...you cannot get close up to these birds.. I wonder if he derives income??
A guy not far from here are shooting a ton of birds as well. Had a masterful website, that he was forced to take down. he is a bit of a prick, but a fantastic photographer. Wish his website still was up because you would be in total awe I like shooting birds as well, but I am not going out just for that. If I see some I may take some pics. Can be tricky as I don't have a 2.8 lens *LOL* Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I can't say I've done many birds. One maybe, and only recently. Neither shot is that good. Exposed poorly, and soft in the focus. It was a beautiful Peregrine Falcon though. ... and this turkey, who was beside me wile I was in a car. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a billion of those shots I know how annoying it can be!! Which is why I would like to get better lenses
The first day I got my 60D, I went to the park near me to play around with the camera. This is one of shots I got. I don't take many shots of birds though. To view larger: http://www.flickr.com/photos/agup627/5639615050/ I tried capturing them in the air, but even with a 18-135mm lens I couldn't get close enough! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Word. That was shot with a 70-200 2.8 IS though... so the excuses fall short on me there. Just was too excited, and didn't take my time, and left my settings a bit silly. (99% of the time, I shoot full manual mode; for better or worse.)
There are three types of photographers I still don't quite understand; bird, airplane (like commercial jets taking off) and train photographers. And while I might not understand why they do it, I have a strange urge to do it too and I have no idea why.
A couple of Classics..from my 70 - 200 2.8 Alfred Hitchcock Claw shot snapped that shot 1/10th of a second before he attacked my Nikon.. He only wants Canon shots..NO MORE NIKONS he said! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
