Not sure whether this has been discussed here or not, but here it goes: Have you guys seen the Birdcage 75? It is a prototype by Pininfarina to celebrate Maser's birdcage. The car is built on a MC12, well Enzo for short. The body reminds me of the Modulo, my all time favourite Ferrari. I read about it in Octane and they mention it will be on display at Pebble Beach this year. Absolutely awesome car and (other than the Modulo) actually does drive.
I hope they make it! Some pics from Goodwood: http://www.italiaspeed.com/2005/events/festival_of_speed/birdcage_75th/goodwood_gallery.html
Did they cannibalize one of the few MC12's or did they build a bare engine/chassis and let Pininfarina work their magic?
I had the same question, but the article doesn't answer it. My feeling is, that Maser made them an additional chassis and it didn't come from the 50 MC12. 3.2 seconds to 60! On a related note: It took me a while, but I have now become a fan of the MC12 because of its Ferrari heritage. I never cared much for any Masers, but then it dawned on me, that the MC12 and the Birdcage75 are part of the Stratos/Fiat Dino/Lancia Thema/Minardi/Sauber/Prost/Red Bull family and I'm a big fan of those cars anyway.
Oh, I saw a TV Show in Korea about the making of this car! It had a bunch of stuff, the designing and perfecting and the final unveiling at some Auto Show! It was pretty nifty. Nobody cares but I thought I'd mention it.
I saw an orignal Maserati Birdcage last weekend here at the Ferrari Festival! beautiful car, dont think this lives up to it. But none the less a beautiful car.
Different times and different tastes. I saw the original birdcage at Goodwood a few years back. And it didn't impress me much. I know if I'd ever see this UFO in person it would knock me off my feet. Just as the Rosso did. I'm a sucker for these extreme designs, which is why I love the Enzo for instance.
