Hope to have my Birdman fuse blocks soon. But since my car is in storage far away from my house, I want to buy the correct quantity of fuses of the correct rating. So I will have everything here. How many of each rating fuse do I need?

Im in Ireland so where is the best place to get them? Has anyone sourced them in the UK?

I looked at this just last week on a '75 308 gt/4 (don't know if there are any differences from your car). I got this information from the top of the factory fuse block covers.

    6 fuses @ 25 Amps
    4 fuses @ 16 Amps
    8 fuses @ 8 Amps

I concur with the quantities for the 308 2V thru 1980. You will want spare fuses! And not just 1 each.

The AGC type fuse is often sold in boxes of 5. Common manufacturer is Bussman.

These AGC fuses were used in the US for 50-60 years of electronic and automotive use, so you should find UK sources without trouble. RadioShack had franchise stores in UK...try auto supply houses also.

    More fuse info: http://www.happcontrols.com/electrical_supplies/49034900.htm
Note they are 250V FastBlow. If you find them w/ceramic bodies, good also.

FWIW, you'll probably find 15a AGC fuses like i did instead of 16a euro type, works fine.Like Paul mentioned, get spares.

I just ordered Birdman's fusebox as well and expect it this week. For my 1980 GTSI, which fuses do I need? Same as posted above by David?
    Thanks!

Woke up in the middle of last night realizing I didn't recommend amperages. You can't get an 8A or 16A AGC fuse. Although 7.5A and 25 were made they won't be found so use 10A and 20A for those. For the 8A use a 10A AGC.

Revised fuse usage + spares (3 each min)
    6 - 20A
    4 - 15A
    10- 10A

Actually I used self-resetting circuit breakers in the spot for my window 25A fuses.

I don't know about Europe but in the USA, AGC fuses are cheap as dirt and available in any NAPA, Wal-mart automotive section, or Pep Boys. Just get a couple packs of the 8, 15 and 25 AMP fuses. You can check your owners manual for the numbers of each, or just look at the covers on the OEM blocks. PLEASE just read the directions on my site carefully. No rocket science, but it eliminates a lot of questions that are already answered if you read the instructions!

Of course, if you get stuck, e-mail me!

Here's 3 pics showing how I replaced mine, it was very easy and I've never had to replace a fuse since, that's 4 years now, thanks Birdman!!! First pic shows crappy original, I numbered the connections T for top, and some arrows for bottoms, some have 2 connections so I made my own code. The new fuse blocks are nice, simple, neat and use the better, more easily available fuses. You'll notice an immediate improvement of just about everything, well I sure did! It took me less than a leisurely hour, so do it and enjoy!

Dino - photo hint...to eliminate the nasty flash hot spots. When you are up close there is plenty of light. Try putting a sheet of white paper over the flash to spread the beam. And many times simply using ambient light or trouble light will produce a superior picture than the flash.

Glad you posted those pics...they sure show how much the area is cleaned up with the new fuseblocks.

Birdman, if you're there, ever stop to consider if you or anyone else hadn't provided replacement fuseblocks, how the market for 308s would be affected. Don't know how many you've made against the 15K 308 cars out there but knowing sellers would be wise to advertise 'my car has new this and that and Birdman blocks'.

Thanks guys! There are a lot of 308s out there with my fuseblocks in them. But a long way to go until I have them in all the 308s. ;)

It's funny because every now and then I see a car on eBay and it mentions the "Birdman's Fuseblocks." I have to laugh because I can't imagine what a potential buyer is thinking. "Birdman fuseblocks? WTF is that?"

It can be a pain building them when I get behind after a long business trip and I have hours and hours of sitting in the basement assembling them. But I get great satisfaction when someone e-mails me back and say they fixed something on the car. I know they made a huge difference on my car which was absolutely plagued with issues in the fusebox. Pretty cheap peace of mind I think. Anyone driving around with the OEM blocks in their car is nuts. They suck so bad!! It's not if but when will you be stranded.

Thanks for the photo hint, it must be my renovation background, I always try to make the "before" pic look as bad as possible, then the "after" one all nice and clear, heh heh heh.Cheers, Dino
