Well I finally bit the bullet on buying a battery for the 308. Volt meter looked a little low yesterday while out for a drive. So I had been putting it off but decided to pull the battery and go get another. I had a Duralast battery that I bought when I got the car. It was a type 48D so I took the old battery down to the Autozone where I bought it and as I walked into the plase this counter guy just laughed and asked me where di I get that old battery. I told him I just took it out of the car. So we looked for the mfg. date and it was 9/1999. We both made a comment that these just don't last. Did the load test for the hell of it and it was toast. So I picked up another one , same type and told them I wanted it to last as long as this one did. Hahahaha. So I came home and installed it and off we go again for another XX years.

Have you been keeping the battery on a smart charger all this time? If you have, then you're seeing the same thing that I am: If you keep it charged with a Battery Tender or equivalent, they last a long time.

No charger . It would sit in my garage in the winter for maybe 3-5 weeks at a time before I would start it up and take it out for a run. Always seemed to fire up with no problem. I suspect I have been running on the alternator a lot but there had never been a time where the car would not start. I guess I hve been lucky. We'll see how the new battery lasts.
