So far, that '84 512BBi was one of the few okay deals to go over the block there. It looked used, but well maintained. Nice in silver, too.

The best deal so far was $37K for the pristine '56 Continental MKII (incorrectly listed as a Lincoln Continental -- they weren't called Lincolns that year, just Continental.) That was an extremely nice car going for under market value (even though it wasn't an A/C car.)

I remember corresponding w/ BigTex about this. Family Classic Cars acquired this at the Wheels & Keels auction in Houston last May for $75,900 including commission. Add transportation expense to SoCal and whatever (if anything) else they did.

They tried to sell locally and on eBay, but apparently nothing ever transpired. I called and talked to them about it (they wanted mid-80's, no CA-BAR), but ended up going in a different direction.

So assuming they got $75K (of the $82.5K), they actually lost some money. Of course, maybe they got six months worth of fun out of it... :)

And someone may have gotten a pretty good deal! Hope it went to a good home...

I was thinking the exact same thing. WHat a good buy for that car. No way you could restore that for that money.

Last Tues. I spoke to Barnaby @ Family Classics and offered to buy the car from them, he could not figure out a price and never got back to me after 4 follow up phone calls that day, I called the next day and I offered them 90k and they thought it would do more at the BJ auction, I said fine, I then have since located another car and for similiar money and to hear they only netted 75k less 7.5k commision , 1.5k Transprtation. Ins. , Net (66k) They should of called me back!

I 'am working on a 84 Red / tan 14k in 90k range solid texas car. I was hesitant since I already once owned a red/ tan car for about 3 years , that I bought from Continental Auto Sport, Perfect experience.

Maybe it really didn't sell for $75K. The seller might have bought it back himself. Some sellers do that if they don't get what they want. Also if it did sell for $75k add the 10% buyers fee and about 7% sales tax and your at $87750. I saw the car and the interior IMO was kind of rough, but for $ 87750 that's what you get. Forgot to look for the original radio and eq.As far as books, tools etc nothing was mentioned.

I also agree that is not the place to sell one since muscle cars are the focus.

Do you have to pay sales tax even if you are an out of state buyer?

Yes if your state charges you sales tax when you buy from a dealer.

I'm surprised that Family Classics would think they could get more money at BJ. BJ is not for exotics. Congrats on finding the car that you wanted.
