The black amex card is being replaced with a metal titanium card. Kinda too bad I guess, the black was pretty cool. Here's a website for centurion members: http://blackcardclub.com/Membership.html Not sure if it's worth it but sounds pretty cool.
First, it's a link to another membership forum. Second, I can't make any sense of this page: http://blackcardclub.com/Black_Card_Club.html
True, but people post the names and links to many different types of forums without issue. Car forums, airplane forums, whatever. I personally think this black card forum looks a little ridiculous, but no biggie. Actually, it's kinda humorous Also, he wasn't advertising the site per se. Rather he noted that it looked interesting.
No problem with posting the link specifically. Just the odd way it was done - first the comment about AMEX moving to Titanium, then a link to a very strange Black Card forum. Hence "shill", i.e. "a decoy who acts as an enthusiastic customer in order to stimulate the participation of others".
I got one of them black titanium (metal) AMEX cards a few months ago. It is a little heavier than a plastic card, but not enough to make a noticeable difference in performance. I got it to get the (supposedly) guaranteed upgrades to first class airplane tickets. I am not a big AMEX fan, but the prospect of extra elbow room on flights to Phoenix seems pretty good. BT
WOAH Bill I have yet to see one of those in person and I ran into you at jts event.... to bad I didnt read this a bit earlier.
Hey didn't mean to offend anyone with the post. I have no affiliation with that website just saw it the other day. As for further explanation about the card replacement, the plastic black amex is being replaced by a metal one. Anyone who's black card is expiring should get one in the mail soon. Here's another change for 2006 -they are discontinuing the automatic Platinum starwood membership. Black card members before 2006 will keep the platinum starwood membership until 2007 but after that all black card members will only get the Gold starwood membership. Definitely too bad. Hope this clears things up. BTW took another look at the black card club website, it's hilarious, the President of the club has one of his chimney video ads posted on it. It's one of the cheesiest commercials I've ever seen.
Here you go if you want to join that dumb ass site; http://www.drstranglove.com/upload/imgs/BlackAMEX.jpg http://www.drstranglove.com/upload/imgs/Black.jpg
Got mine a couple of months ago. Looks & feels cooler than the previous plastic card. Not sure why I even still have the card, I get almost no use out of it that I don't get with any other credit card.
Someone explain to me the benefits of black, gold, etc.... I've always carried a plain-jane Amex green card (the original one) and can still walk into any car dealership and still only place XX amount down on a car with it. Additionally, the fees that accompany the gold, black, etc....are rather high and from what some people have said, they're more just an ego boost than anything else. Don't know about you guys, but I don't need to impress the cashier at the grocery store with Amex black... Of course, the mention of upgraded airline tickets doesn't sound too bad, but how often is that guaranteed? Someone 'splain it to me please, and if the benefits outweigh the cost, I'll consider.. Im sure other guys here can give you much more info on the black card. I know the gold card cost $60 and Plat. is $300, I passed on that, but I may get it if Im going on an internationl flight cause then you get a free companion ticket, other than that all the benifits mean little to me, they help on dinner and hotel stuff too, but Im not familar with the spefics. I got a blue and gold card, Im bout to cancel the gold again for the second time since the first year was free and in Aug they'll want $60, so "f" em the blue got me free concert tickets though
I'll spare you the typical "please search" pics. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88631&highlight=amex+black http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69321&highlight=amex+black
Murcielago, Thanks for the links. Definitely no need for me to upgrade cards at all. I travel a few times a year, sometimes on business but mostly for vacation. And I'm pretty sure I don't even come close to spending $250K per year on my AMEX!! There was a great point brought up in one of the threads anyways, in that your ATM card should be able to buy you whatever your AMEX black will!! ....or at least it better be able to! I never understood the "hype" over the classes of credit cards, and the why the battle over exclusivity of them. If you have another card and are a big spender like a Black card holder, won't you still get the same untapped credit limits, ect. The "Green Card" is the standard, regular card right?
Thats what I thought. So if theres no limit and no intrest, then if you miss a payment is the card revoked?
no you get a slap on the wrist the first time or two after that the card will probably be revoked. It's a charge card not a credit card which means the whole amount is due at the end of each pay cycle. There are a lot of negative posts asking why anyone would need this card and if it is really necessary vs how much of owning one is a status symbol. The simplest answer to that is if you travel and if you go out it's worth it. Think about it this way, can any other card upgrade a standard room at the Bellagio to a 3000 sqft suite overlooking the fountain? Can any card get you reservations to some of the top restaurants with 1 hour notice? What about airline upgrades and access to airport lounges and on and on. Membership is $2500.00 but how much is a first class ticket vs economy? If you get upgraded just 5 times in one year I think that would more than cover the cost of the membership. If anyone gets this card for status only then it is truly a waste of $1000.00 or $2500.00. Get a nice suit or watch instead, on second thought those items won't really raise your status either.
