I just noticed that the NACA duct on this Boxer that's for sale is painted "black" instead of the car's body color. Has anyone else seen the ducts painted like this? My duct is the same color as my car (red). Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here's mine for comparision. I do kinda like the blacked out look.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jesus that's a good looking car.... Hmmmm.... Hmmmm... Hmmmm.... Have I seen this before?... Hmmm.... Let me keep looking at this car and think about it some more... Hmmmm.... Jesus that's a good looking car... Yes, No, I really don't care! I'll take it either way.
I cannot find any original pictures of a Boxer with black NACA ducts. I much prefer them painted body colour. My thats just my opinion.
Mine came with a red duct on a black bottom, just like the car used in the 1981 BB factory brochure. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here's another one with a red duct (for sale on EBAY, bboxer is this yours?)http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6212&item=4517422836&rd=1 Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am inclined to agree with you Gary. It helps balance out all of the red. You've got my vote. (You may be accused of "bastardizing" your car though) I don't think it works red NACA in a black surround like the other car shown. Looks out of place for some reason.(personal taste).
This car was starting at $85k last time with buy it now $90k. Sold ASIS I wonder if something happened to it mechanically or a bad PPI or he made a mistake on the no reserve, anyway if no reserve looks like a nice car, I'd grab it if I didn't have mine, the carb cars are incredible,
I kinda like it too, but there's no way that I would ever paint mine. I'm keeping my BB all original/stock, except for the exhaust system, which can easily switched back to the original, if need be.
No it is not mine. mine was an 81 and had no passenger side outside mirror (as it should be in stock form). IMO nothing wrong with painting the duct, if after all the factory did a few including the one in their 81 brochure.
Out of curiousity I emailed the guy on ebay and left messages on his phone #to confirm no reserve on the auction and have received no response, though he has answered other questions as you can see on the auction page, he does not state no reserve in the auction anywhere, looks to me like he is playing games.
Interesting car sold for $56,756.00 to bidder with zero history...hmmm? That sure throws a wrench in my upward trending Boxer sales averages.
Highly suspect shell game, the dealer/seller would never confirm a no reserve auction with me, his buy it now auction started at $85k with buy it at $90k before, unless he was desparate why sell it for almost half? He may not even be the owner it could be a consignment car, chances are it will show up again in a year or less.
My guess it never REALLY sold at all. Just went to a fictitious (like a mate or family member with new E bay ID). I certainly wouldn't skew values trends with this suspected 'pseudo' sale
