When I went to see how things were coming along yesterday we discussed painting and cleaning up the top of the inner wheel wells that have the matte black finish with texture. Is this the same matte black paint that is sprayed (Attached photo) along the back window / frame trim ? Are these (4) inner wheel wells tops even painted or left as is with a very dull matte black. Any advice or know how on what the final treatment should be ? Maybe Paul can help out here. I really admire the job he's been doing on his restorations. Thank you for always sharing.

    SEM trim black.

Don't forget to cut that DOT bar off the front of your car!

    Paul,

Thank you very much for the response and information on the paint. I will make sure the DOT bar is cut out. I happen to also have them in the doors (See Attached) photos. Should I have them removed or
left in before we close everything up.

    Thank you for you help.

Leave the bars in the doors. The other option which we did on the 76 resto is welded in crash bars inside the doors with no external evidence. Having a proper crash bar could save your life. Not much there to protect you from a big old cady bumper sitting on your lap from an inattentive driver.

Not sure those are DOT crash bars in the doors - Mine has them but they look more like a "factory attempt" at looking like protection, and aren't tied-in at the ends like I've seen on converted Boxers (or at least, properly converted).

The only other "DOT-conversion-ish" thing we found (that I can recall) was a nearly full-width strip of 1/4" steel plate epoxied inside the rear bumper.

Depends on who converted the car. Ive seen 5 different types of crash bars so far and some are pretty much cosmetic. The red 79 Im restoring now has the best bars Ive seen (protection-wise) and can be identified by the this style of plate on the door end.

This is my 84 which barely had a conversion. Aside from crash bars and 4 little screwed on reflectors I can't see any other mods. The car came with yellow for lights which is market specific including the octagon nuts. How it passed I have no idea.
