Question - got a 2016 FF in Rosso Corsa. We noticed black paint under the clear bra on the driver side fender. We told the dealer and they got the car in in and now they are saying that its normal and a flaw with Ferrari. They said that its under the clear coat as well and that trying to fix it would require sanding and the paint would never look the same as the factory.

I feel they are just telling me this because they don't want to remove the clear bra and don't want to fix the black paint. Maybe because its not Ferrari factory but maybe its from the dealership.

Anyone else have black paint splatter? Anyone heard if this is normal with Ferrari? I could not find anything online about it.

That sounds like the worst BS I have ever heard from a dealer - too bad you didn't catch it before u paid for it - that would change their attitude - never heard of such a thing
    Best of luck

OK, I've owned 3 recent Rosso Corsa cars, and while they have had swirls, sanding marks, holograms, orange peel and every other known paint defect, I've never seen or heard of "black paint spatter".

FWIW, our local genius detailing guru did astonishingly good paint corrections and coatings - before he did the 3M application.

I would bet $5 those black marks are dirt or rubber streaks that were on the paint, and the car was not properly cleaned or prepped before it was sealed in plastic.

My friend had his 911 3M'd and damn if they didn't find a blonde hair under it the day after. The shop offered to re-do it, but realistically you can't notice, so he took a rain check/IOU for some future detailing

Agree with the others. They are trying to get away with something. You'll need to remove the clear bra and go from there. They should be willing to back up the product they sold you.

Even new TDF need paint correction. Demand they do it. Blaming the factory is weak, they are responsible for selling you the car.

I would just have to ask how you can tell that its under the clear and not just under the film since one covers the other. Its poor when something like this messes up your experience. Not a great dealer response. Beyond that, if you eventually sell it that way you will have to try and explain it to a potential buyer and they will react the way you have. Good news is the film has to be replaced before you know it anyway and you can have it done then. Agree with E that its surface only dirt. Good luck.

Completely agree. They are assuming. Also when they take off the bra I wonder it will peel off the clear coat or lead to other paint issues. The story is that the clear bra installers knew about the paint splatter but installed anyway because it was under the clear coat. I read so much about paint corrections getting done before these bras and coating are applied and every brand has issues with the paint which leads to why they do it and part of why the costs are so high in these add ons due to labor.

We also have to think that if the paint has to be fixed that this could go on the carfax and would lead to questions later as well.

This could be much bigger in the long run.

Really my whole experience with Ferrari has been a drag. While I still love the brand I have been nothing but frustrated throughout my whole experience with this dealer and this car.

the film should come off without damaging the paint, assuming the surface was prepared and the installer uses good technique, patience, et al (i.e. find a really good installer).

Who did the original installation? I'd get the paperwork and see (just in case) if there is any warranty. In reality, it's down to the installer.

Yeah thats another issue all together. Dealer had the job done. No paperwork or info at delivery so I have no idea what brand of product was used, warranty, care, etc. They could have used bobo film on the car and care of install or preparation could have been very minimal as shown with stretch marks and bubbled areas which is also another thing not mentioned.

Not to get mired in this but I have had my cars get Xpel with Ryan at the same dealer and Ryan does amazing work.
The length of the hood on the F12 and the FF requires there be a an extra bit near to the windshield on the outer edges. On my F12 that line is barely detectable...on your FF that line is just about invisible...

Was not bringing up that same dealer here but since you have - yes. Thats the one. As for Ryan's work not sure if he is the one who did the job on this car or not and not questioning the edges on the hood. Personally I don't think Ryan did the job because I think the job would not pass for his quality based on what I heard and what you are saying but its also not passing my quality requirement either.

You are right except this is my first Ferrari hopefully of many. Its also like a trophy for doing well in business. I went with brand new over used just so I would not have issues and defects. Down the line I may settle for used and some blemishes because I want that particular model and/or color but for now I want perfect and for over $300k I should get it.

I really appreciate everyone on this chat board! Its a really great group of people that take time to provide answers from a real world perspective. Part of why I love Ferrari and have since I was a young kid.
