On most f430 the tailpipe drips black onto the paint just below the exhaust tips. I have had my car for about 2 months... Always the black soot would drip onto the paint. I had almost gotten used to it. Last week I disconnected the exhaust valve vacuum hose and for better sound below 4000 rpm. At the same time the black soot dripping problem also went away. I know many 430 owners experience the black soot. Can you guys share your experience on black soot and opening exhaust valves?

Exactly Lou! No more soot coming out the muffler with opened valves ;) Just clear condensed vapor water ;)

Thanks Stef and Lou! I can't tell you how sick I am of wiping down/polishing the paint after every drive.

Now, excuse my technical idiocy, but how do you disconnect the exhaust valves?

    Thanks!

The solution on my 360 was to jigger the mounting so that the tips extend sufficiently beyond the paint that the condensate from the exhaust just drips onto the pavement, not the paint.

I was also getting very sick of wiping down/ polishing the paint after every drive... It driving me crazy. I had almost just started to accept it, then discovered the solution. There are plenty of treads explaining how to disconnect the exhaust valves. It is really simple it takes about 2 minutes to complete the job. Use the search function.

Using the search function wouldn't apply in my case, as my issue could not be solved by disconnecting the exhaust valves; that had already been done when the Tubi was installed. All cars have some water that condenses inside the exhaust system. This happens even if the valves are left open, although there may be less condensate. If the car is left to sit for long periods between drives, it's also possible for condensate to evaporate. If it doesn't evaporate, it can drip out when the car is started and is warming up. This is why cars have steam coming out the exhaust when cold started. The condensate is heated up and coming out as vapor. Whether it's black and sooty or just clear, the condensate is mildly acidic and thus can cause paint damage and discoloration. The best solution is to keep it from dripping onto the paint.

    I still have soot!

On my 2006 F430 Spider I have the Capristo electronic black box to keep the valves open aka "loud" all of the time, I use the system 100% of the time, and I still have black drips on my red paint. Using the Capristo exhaust control box 100% of the time should be mechanically the same as the exhaust valve vacuum hose modification. All stock exhaust apart from the Capristo box.

BTW; the drips do not bother me, I wipe them off when I see them, and that is that.
