Picked up a set of the spark plug shrouds for the early cars - the shrouds that push into the spark plug tube. Sourced them from Superformance UK. They are much larger than the tube in the cam cover/head and I can't see how they would be removed if in fact I could shove them in. I tried a bit of coolant on the rubber to help it but it simply seems to be too large for the hole. Anyone else have this experience? Any ideas?

Interesting. Thanks for the input. The car has always had the shrouds that are inserted into the head. The ones you have in your photo probably have a sleeve pressed into the cam cover or head to accept those caps? What is the s/n and production date of your car? Mine is Dec 77 23153.

Early 308 have more of a "plug" that presses into the camcover (and no "tube" 52 as in Dockboy's post) -- item 25 here:

    https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/Diagram/Ferrari/308-GTB-1976-Fibreglass/039-Engine-Ignition

The later 308 got the tube added and use the "shroud" that goes over the tube (the high item number for the tube in Dockboy's post is evidence that it was a later design change). I thought there was an SB for this, but I can't find it (but my recollection is it happened circa 1976-77 so Andy's car might have either). You can't mix-and-match -- if you don't have the tube = you need the plug; if you have the tube = you need the shroud.

As I said, I think it was an SB so (in addition to F not always doing the tightest design switch overs and engines sometimes "recirculating" in the factory) early cars might have been updated -- or did you buy your car new?

Bought it in '78 from Ferrari of Atlanta. I will dig through some of the original FAF invoices to see if there is anything on the SB.

Thanks Steve, and Dockboy as well. Yes I have seen both types. So we go back to the original question, should it take superhuman effort to press the insert-type shroud into the head? I feel the ones from Superformance UK are too wide.

I bought the early type plug well seals from SF UK last year and they fit without issue in my July '77 car. Just a nice, snug fit. So perhaps an issue with their most recent batch?

Thanks for the information. I just sent them a message asking for their help. I appreciate you helping "ground" me on this.
