Black stain from exhaust on paint on rear, how to clean?

    My red California has black stuff on the rear bumper around the exhaust. Any idea what the best thing to clean that black crap off? It does not wash off with normal auto soap.

    I built a 30 x 65 garage thinking I would maybe put some other Ferrari in it too, or a Panamara or a classic ... forget them all, this car is so much fun!!

    Rick, I have the same thing and with a little elbow grease it comes off. You're talking about the exhaust soot, correct?

    I've never had to remove the soot build up on a bumper from the exhaust with anything other than a quality car wash soap and a nice soft cloth and some good scrubbing :).

    Yep, exhaust soot. I will try to work it a little harder.

    I saw the same thing one day and thought I drove over fresh asphalt. It takes a couple of minutes of good rubbing. I use SwissVax Cleaner fluid from Detailers Domain.

    Because you drive your California often, I would highly recommend picking up a couple of bottles of this cleaner fluid or something similar. I use it on my California. The other suggestion on this thread from Griots is probably a fine product as well, never used that one.

    I have used Carbon X for years on my airplane. It is safe for any paint or metal and is used by professionals specifically to remove exhaust soot from the paint on turbine aircraft.

    Yep, we will get beat up because of the forum.

    My garage is 30 x 65. It has 10 foot doors, not the normal 8. I will shoot a few photos tonight to show you how much extra room that gives you. And with 30' depth it is really easy to get around the car(s) to do anything you want.

    Epoxy floor is very cool. Cabinets work to store things. Mine happens to be fully finished, insulated, heated & air conditioned. Business was rather good last year. There is a French drain in one bay so I can wash in the winter. Outside lights are on motion sensor but switched too so if I drag out a telescope they will not turn on. No windows in rear to keep folks from breaking in there ... but has an alarm system with motion sensing and glass break sensors too.

    Does that give you some ideas?

    Dang, you have that garage secure! And I was tipping off my Bronx buddies to case your joint. Don't you find the epoxy floor exceptionally slippery?

    When they put the floor down they mixed in a big pile of sand like stuff that was white, not sure what it was but it makes it not slippery at all, but not too gritty. These guys knew what they were doing. I will upload photos a little later as the attachment manager here seems to be broken.
