I am thinking of upgrading my ignition system and have heard of good reports of the BSM that Superformance import from Aussie. Does anyone in the Uk have one fitted or have fitted themselves on a 308 series. I would like their views and thoughts on any differences made either performance, running etc . I would like to get some info before I finally purchase as its alot of money for what seems minimal hardware when compared to other systems for other cars.
    Thanks
    Gav

This system is similar to the electromotive system in that it utilises a high energy inductive discharge system rather than an MSD style system which is capacative. A capacative spark is very high energy but very short, which I believe is no good for our application. The high enery inductive is about 2.5 times longer duration and about 90% the energy of capacative. I hear nothing but good things about both systems, although if it were me I would stick with the Black Stallion as it keeps a more original look. I use a high energy inductive system which is triggered by two optical pickups in a distributor, so it looks original but operates with modern efficiency. For a carbureted car, it is a must as low end drivability is increased and idle is smooth as silk.

    I have fitted these to a 308 and 246.

Let me know what info require ie have you bought it yet?

Its a good system and improves performance/ running quite considerably.

I have been talking to a Distributor Specialist in the Midlands who currently converts and makes specialist units. They convert points sytems to electronic and do ferrari ones for 246 and 308 for considerably less than the BSM system. Though these are not programable, I might take my dizzy to them to discuss further, The amount that I can save will enable me to look at purchasing a big brake kit.
Even though I am still interested to hear about BSM system and if there is a hp/drivability difference over standard.

There are electronic systems available to go straight into the 246 and 308 distributors that keep the standard look and improve starting, running and economy. Price wise they are a lot cheaper than the BSM system. That said, they are not programmable. Beware of cheap Chinese imitations, there are a lot of these on the market and they are just not up to it. Poor spark energy, inaccurate timing between cylinders etc. The Pertronix Ignitor is available off the shelf for you to fit yourself, it is easy to do, only 2 wires to connect to the coil and will make a significant difference. Rardley, QV and Neil Lucas to name a few use them.
