Hi guys, Need help... I have a yellow 458 Spyder and am now thinking of painting the wheels black with color yellow on the rims circular lip. Any of you guys have pictures on this?

that would look killer. i painted my wheels gloss black to match my black 458, it looks incredible. If you have a yellow car and you do paint the edge of the lip yellow to match car with black wheels I think it will take the car to another level aesthetically.

Is the general consensus that painting original Ferrari wheels results in lower resale value for the car?

    I think it depends:

If you paint your wheels grigio ferro-like, as is available from the factory, it most probably won't. This is fantastic with yellow. Same fantastic is chacoal.

If you go for black with yellow pinstripe: this is a matter of taste and, as not everybody has the same taste, it may lower the value (slighty - as wheel can be replaced or repainted).

Not at all in my situation. I checked with the GM of my Ferrari dealership prior to doing any customization and he said he'd give me the same value for the car when I brought it back to get the Spider.

I am way old school and I think the black wheels look horrible on any car.

They remind me of all the other black wheel cars that are either plain rims or really bad wheels painted back. Too many modified Civics started this trend a decade ago IMO....

For me, a forged or cast aluminum wheel is a shame cover up with paint.

I just don't get it but respect to each their own. If you are going to do it, then at least get the advanced grigio ferro-like finish as offered by Ferrari.

I think it would look great and I don't care about resale value. Just my opinion.

Interesting difference in culture. In the UK that would make the car unsaleable without a new set of wheels.

Looks good and is your car not someone elses. If you are worried about resale, then park it and save it for the next guy. Good luck. Best

Good for California. Not so much elsewhere except maybe China.

I have a black 458 and am going to have the dealership paint my wheels black as well. They are asking if I am wanting to go matte, semi-gloss, gloss, metallic. Wanted to get some thoughts on the way to go. I like the dull (matte) look - that is the direction I'm leaning.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

I've grown tired of black wheels and I had hoped that this "fad" would have passed by now. I much prefer silver or dark gray.

I'd go gloss to match the car. Check out my black 458 with rims painted black to match car, all red/orange lights blacked out, & black tint. Everything fits together perfectly in unison. Matte black looks good on a lighter car like white IMO.

I didn't see a link to check out a pic of your 458 with the gloss rims. Can you resend the picture? Interested to see them with a gloss finish.

    Thank you.

Not the best pic but here's a 458 I saw awhile back, I think it looks brilliant. I prefer it over stock color, dark grey or black enhances the design IMO.

Absolutely agree, personally I think the black wheels look horrible.

Didn't the "fad" start with street racers going to black to hide brake dust?????

How many black wheeled cars do you see at Auto Shows for new or upcoming models? Near zero in my watching the major shows including the most recent Geneva show.

I personally love black wheels, preferably with a polished lip but all black are really nice as well.
And I don't think that it's a "fad" like chrome was back in the day. It is here to stay, it gives the car a much meaner and sportier look which I don't think will ever go out of style.
Lamborghini's started with all black wheels with their LP-xxx cars and I don't see them stopping. Even Bentley are doing it now..

I've also been trying to get my head around black wheels but they just don't appeal to me. Maybe it's a generational thing as I was always a 80's BMW fan. In fact, I think PF and F designs echo the same sort of visceral but restrained esthetics that Manfred Rennen and Claus Luthe imparted on BMWs from the 80s. You see this when you contrast Ferrari designs against those from Lamborghini.

Black rims also remind me of brake dust, budget Winter steel rims and ricers - we get long cold Winters here so people don't clean their wheels (and cars) for months! I think that may explain why car owners in California (and perhaps other warm locales) don't feel the same about them. In any case, I do like to admire the design details in the wheels, especially when they cost so much more than regular premium wheels.

I ordered a Bianco Avus California and will stick with the standard diamond finish 20" offered by FoO. I like being able to return a Ferrari in a nice factory-standard configuration when need be but will likely bolt on a second set of fancier wheels in silver.
